If you don't already know about Deep Ellum, then just consider this your warning. I can't think of anything down there I can't live without. On June 6, 2026, at approximately 12:35 a.m., Deep Ellum Task Force officers were conducting a foot patrol in the 200 block of July Alley when they observed 17-year-old Nathan Guerrocastillo smoking marijuana. The officers stopped Guerrocastillo and performed a pat down, which uncovered a pistol with a machine gun conversion device attached, along with an extended magazine. In the 17-year-old’s backpack, the officers located more marijuana, a THC pen, and an alcoholic beverage. The pistol Guerrocastillo was carrying was determined to have been reported stolen. Guerrocastillo was taken into custody without incident and charged with Prohibited Weapon, a third-degree felony; Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon, a Class A misdemeanor; Possession of Marijuana under two ounces, a Class B misdemeanor; and Public Intoxication, a Class C misdemeanor. Looks like he could afford to buy the stolen Glock off the street, the switch to modify it and the mag, but only could afford 12 rounds of ammo. Not sure how they only got one felony charge out of this. I'm sure it will all be plead down since he's 17. Attached File |

Elsie Faye Higgins/Malcolm X intersection was lit again this weekend. I know some of that spilled over into Deep Ellum, but DPD was out there grabbing folks. Not so much over on Malcolm X. This was probably the first year in 7 or 8 years that I didn't go to work to check the property. Some of my asshole neighbors finally moved out. I just my cameras a few times and stayed home and watched movies, it was nice for a change. |

Deep Ellum is not the cool place it once was. Overrun with a lot of new corporate investment driven apartment complexes, very sub par restaurants and hoodlums under 21 that can't get into bars and meander around on the streets. Just a silly place existing on name only at this point. Looking for a good place to eat or grab a drink? There are plenty in Dallas elsewhere. The homeless people are in their own universe. The ones at 9am on a weekday shouting at a brick wall are the same ones there at night. They will break into your car if you leave stuff in it. Don't. Otherwise pretty harmless if you mind your own business. Homeless are everywhere in Dallas now, almost every shopping center has them crawling around. The hoodlum thing with shootings and stabbings is very real. A late night thing and a lot of "innocent people" get hurt in crowds. Don't be down there late. |

I had a friend (he married an el paso latina and went left) who moved with his wife to a home walking distance to deep ellum. THEY thought it was a great idea. *shrugs* I remember when the black lives protests were getting spicey down town and was thinking how they're living right there on the edge of that festiveness. |

I went to Carter Blood Center at Baylor last week. The blood center is about a block or two east of "Big" Baylor next to El Rancho. They said they may be moving to Casa Linda because of homeless and what not. They have electronic locks on the front door, but you could sit there in the truck and watch people circle the parking lot. Definitely a downer for trying to do something positive. |

As of January 2023 the Texas DPS now approves 18 to 20 year olds for their Texas License to Carry a Handgun https://texascarrycourse.com/18-and-up-license-to-carry It was a court case that overturn the statute for License to Carry. Constitutional carry is still in court |
