Hi all.  My cousin invited me to tag along for an elk hunt this fall, probably first week of Nov.  I’m a fairly experienced hunter since I do a decent amount of waterfowl’s hunting here in the Midwest. I’m planning on getting a 270 or 6.5prc gun in the next week or 2 then start practicing.

Any advice that im missing something?  Travel, equipment, training, etc?

Currently planning on rucking & stair master with an oxygen deprivation mask this summer.

@stoner01 planning on 5 days a week currently. I’m in decent shape now as it is.  I did a half marathon recently on zero training and it was fine.  Did it in 2:26 bc a buddy wouldn’t do it alone.

If you don’t have one, a day pack.  Paracord, extra knife.
If you want to go all out, OnX Hunt premium.  Download the maps on your Ipad.  Battery backup for ipad. Douglas area isn’t too rough.
You will have a great time.

Running's fine if that's what you like, but a sustained pace at an incline is going to give better yields.

Granted, I live in the area, but I spend a lot of time in the mountains. I'll do a half hour at 15% incline, speeds between 4.2 and 4.6 mph, breaks every ten minutes (or as-needed if I'm having an off day). Then, when you get good at that, throw on a pack and keep at it. Don't forget weights, either, as that's a critical component.

@Jetpig my preferred daypack is a 15l with beavertail personally.  Thanks for the clue in the onx.  I’ve had enough shit die I ALWAYS pack a backup charger. I’ll prob grab a garmin too as a backup.

Well.  Hunt is confirmed. November 1-6.

How’s the weather out there that time of year?  I looked online & saw everything from 20s-50s and sunny to freezing rain
