Well I guess it's my turn, They sent me a flyer saying that in the next few weeks they're replacing my analog meter. The flyer goes on to say how wonderful and safe they are and how the technology has been rigorously tested and how safe they are. Where have I heard that before? Oh yeah - The Clot shot rigorously tested and safe. Which turned to be neither safe or effective. After a little searching the web and youtube it turns out that the things really aren't all that safe, and some folks bills doubled and developed health issues. The bright side is I can opt out and it'll only cost me 28 dollars and change a month. Well I ain't falling for the BS and it'll only cost me 28 dollars to do so. Just venting, carry on. |
| We have AEP here. They swapped out our meter to the e-meter years ago. No noticeable health or change in billing. Only big change is no meter reader coming into the backyard every month leaving my gate open when leaving. |
Well, I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison....

This has been a thing for years now. If the smart meter is just to avoid having manual meter reading, which in most cases it is, it is fine and there are no issues. If the smart meter is the type that can throttle usage during heavy/peak loads, they have the issues you are referencing. Usually there is more involved there, and there isn't an opt out fee. In your case it appears to be the former situation and if you opt out, you get to directly pay for them to keep a meter reader on staff. |

I remember hearing about all the health issues and crazy bills. None of that has happened. |
