It appears Konstantinos “Kosta” Diamantis, the former state deputy budget director and chief of school construction funding who was appointed by Malloy, has fled the country to Greece after failing to appear in federal court today for sentencing. Per the WTNH news article; "Diamantis was found guilty on 21 counts, including bribery, extortion, and lying to federal investigators as part of a scheme to shake down construction contractors seeking work on projects he oversaw for the state." Former state deputy budget director flees country ahead of sentencing, attorney says In open court Thursday, Diamantis’ defense attorney, Norm Pattis, said he received a call from Diamantis Wednesday evening, who said he would not be in court on Thursday and that he is in Greece. The federal prosecutor said Diamantis drove from Connecticut to Florida, took a boat to the Bahamas, and then flew to London. “As a lawyer, you know, I cannot support his decision to take the law into his own hands,” Pattis said. “But as a fellow human being, I understand why he did what he did. He’s got two choices: spend the next five years of your senior citizenship, or your golden years, asking Bubba for permission to stand in line or go to Greece. Who wouldn’t go to Greece?” |
