NC friends,

My GF and I have been fostering a German shepherd and need to find him his forever home. He's appx 1.5 years old. His name is Bowie.

Bowie is a stray we've been taking care of for about two months now. He is current on all vaccinations, heart worm preventative and he is newly neutered. He is heart worm negative. We've also micro-chipped him (he was not chipped when we received him). He is about 66lbs and needs to continue gaining a little weight.

He's come a long way in the past couple months and is an exuberant young boy! He is super with people and loves attention. He wants to play with other dogs. We have cats, and while he is good with them, he wants to play and doesn't understand his strength and limits so discretion should be used if you are interested and have cats.

He doesn't like when his people leave and has a tendency to jump our 4-foot fence when in the yard SO HE WILL NEED A YARD WITH A 6-FOOT OR TALLER FENCE. He doesn't roam the neighborhood but will go to the front of the house and hang out on the porch.

He is learning basic obedience such as sit, stay and heel. He sticks closely to us when we are out with him. He is generally well-mannered in the house and doesn't get into trouble unless you leave food a little too long unattended on the table. He responds well to firm corrections such as "no" and "leave it." He is not food aggressive.

He is learning to play ball, but his favorite toys are soft fuzzy dog toys. He is just now beginning to enjoy chewing on his Nylabone chew toy.
He is comfortable and resigned in his crate but has to be coaxed inside with treats. During the day he will often just go inside on his own.

*** Bowie is an active young GSD and will need someone who can spend time playing, walking, and hiking with him. He rides very well in the truck when traveling. We think he would also benefit from a home that has a dog that would be just as active with him. He may be too rough when playing if you have small children **

If you or someone you know might be a good fit for this loyal, affectionate and active lad, please PM me with your interest or any questions.

We are in the Winston-Salem/Greensboro/High Point, NC area.

Thanks!

Check with Casper at Unleashed Dog Training. He works with local Veterans and trains service dogs.

Appreciate it. Unfortunately, I found the web site and it's kind of a soup sandwich. After finally finding a "contact us" link and clicking on it, it doesn't work. I'll keep trying.

You might want to take this to GD , If you don't find a local home GD loves GSD's. If I did not have 2 I would consider another.

Definitely post it GD.
I wish we could take him in.  I already have 3 dogs.  If you post in GD I guarantee you will find him a good home.
