What can you guys tell me about living in Greenville or the surrounding areas? My wife is being recruited by a hospital there and it seems like it would be a good move for us. I have two kids, ages 12 and 4, so schools are a factor. Also need kid appropriate entertainment. How is crime? How are taxes? What areas should we look at? What areas should we avoid? Any other info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and Happy Father's Day to all the Dads on here! |
| Can’t help to much but my daughter goes to school there. It’s the #1 fastest growing city in SC. I like the downtown area, plenty of good food. Way to many people for my liking usually, it’s expensive (at least more expensive than my small SC town and the traffic as rush hour on I85 isn’t fun. I do like to visit when I go there though. |

Moved here from CT 3 years ago. Love the area—lots of things to do regardless of your interests. Lots of growth, which is both good and bad. Houses/new neighborhoods going up everywhere. You need to be careful if you’re buying new, because lots of houses are being built by crappy builders who don’t care about the long term. Downtown is always busy but generally safe to walk around. Can’t comment on schools/neighborhoods or stuff for kids since I’m past all that. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Just understand that like any highly desirable area, we’re struggling with coping with the growth. |

My current area has grown significantly in the past decade, so I hopefully know what to expect. Our downtown is littered with bums, so Greenville will be a refreshing change for us. I will heed your warning about new construction, thank you for the heads up. |

People on this very board tell me I'm already dead, but my neighborhood has been completely safe. Taxes are cheaper in Anderson County also. A lot of rural areas, just minutes away from the big shopping g areas. Plus we have the lake. |

For 55 of those years, I kept a pistol within reach. I've never had to use it or show it to anyone. As a general rule, if you and your family stay clear of the street sales of unlicensed pharmaceutical products, everyone will be safe. This is a constitutional carry state if you are so inclined. |

my friend lives in Mauldin and its a pretty decent area, parts of greenville are blue. but its a pretty nice area. lots of parks, minor league baseball or is that the college stadium. not sure. lots of outdoors, bunch of bars. mountains nearby, downtown is small. Clinton House is nearby , which hosts psa gathering and ak masters. |
