Now that I'm no longer doing classes, I have some alternating weekend time to start doing some interior improvements to the hunt camp, The overall building is perhaps 20' x 60' and it's divided in half, with the front half containing the kitchen and bathroom and the rear (former classroom) has the central A/C unit.

I've got a good bit of cypress lumber we cut and stacked some thirty years ago so no better time than to get busy and make some improvements.

I plan on doing all the walls in cypress with a mix of board and batten and just plain board end to end in certain places. Once done, I'll paint the ceiling and support beams either white or grey.

Off to a good start for not being a carpenter and having zero wood-working experience. Hope to have it done by December so I can host a meet and greet along with range fun and a night shoot.

Before...

The beginning...

As I told you on the phone yesterday, great job my friend! You’ve got a really neat set up there and this is really going to make a huge difference.  Glad you are finally taking some time for yourself to improve and enjoy the place.

Looks like a pro job!  Glad to see it going up.

I helped some family run a pile of trees through a portable mill and cross stack the boards.  Thirty years later it's seasoned perfectly, and will probably be in the same stack in another thirty...

Looks great! Better hope your bride doesn't want a similar job at home.

Awesome upgrades. It will be a whole new retreat when you are done. Just don't forget the ankle breaking front porch!

Love the warmth that wood brings to an indoor area. Even better that there’s no need for sheetrock and mud!  Looks great Bob!

Thanks... I agree... my brother has been after me for years to do this but I simply have not had the time. Now I do.

Got a little more done this week but I'm in the process of moving my 93 y/o mom from Tallahassee down here to live with me where I live so she has a better quality of life. That's going to keep me busy for the next several weeks and then I can press on with the improvements.

My goal is to set dates in the future for gatherings perhaps with a theme... a long range weekend, a shotgun weekend, a wood-stocked mil surp weekend, etc., and of course, night shooting.
