There was a bit of a stink raised over that, after she originally announced she was going to do it.  Democrats started pointing fingers and claimed republicans were only complaining because a democrat was doing it.

I'm guessing that she realizes she doesn't have much of a chance of winning the senate seat, but is doing it for name recognition and the campaign donations, while not letting go of the house seat that she already has.

In CT Lieberman's 2000 Senate campaign was concurrent with that year's presidential election.
