Hi all, I come before you with great and sincere humility to admit I'm very confused about Illinois gun law. I thought that Pritzker's 2023 Protect Illinois Communities Act outlawed everything more capable than a revolver, a lever action or a deer rifle. I know Todd Vandrymyde and many others have been working very hard to put a stake in it, but I thought Pritzker Law was still the law of the land. so. I happened to visit GAT Guns pistol and rifle sites the other day and was ... stunned by what I found. What am I missing? I know we haven't won the war, but I'm very confused. Respectfully, LB |

M1As, Mini-14s, Ruger PC9s, Rnach Rifles, the CMMG Dissent are all legal if they don't have a flash suppressor. Muzzle brakes on rifles are legal. Most semi auto pistols ar ekegal if they do t have a threaded magazine. If in doubt, look at the ISP flow chart. Folding, collapsing and Pistol grip stocks are a no go. |

Nobody knows, and that is how they like it. 1. Is a mag fed semi-auto pistol with a threaded barrel legal? According to PICA, no. 2. Is a mag fed semi-auto pistol with a threaded barrel legal if you are CCW holder? Maybe? I think so but maybe not? Who knows.... Edit - I should elaborate. Not so much a CCW holder, but the strange, circular law about handguns based on the Concealed Carry Act. (2) "Assault weapon" does not include: (A) Any firearm that is an unserviceable firearm or has been made permanently inoperable. (B) An antique firearm or a replica of an antique firearm. (C) A firearm that is manually operated by bolt, pump, lever or slide action, unless the firearm is a shotgun with a revolving cylinder. (D) Any air rifle as defined in Section 24.8-0.1 of this Code. (E) Any handgun, as defined under the Firearm Concealed Carry Act, unless otherwise listed in this Section. Here is the Handgun definition under the Concealed Carry Act. "Handgun" means any device which is designed to expel a projectile or projectiles by the action of an explosion, expansion of gas, or escape of gas that is designed to be held and fired by the use of a single hand. "Handgun" does not include: (1) a stun gun or taser; (2) a machine gun as defined in item (i) of paragraph (7) of subsection (a) of Section 24-1 of the Criminal Code of 2012; (3) a short-barreled rifle or shotgun as defined in item (ii) of paragraph (7) of subsection (a) of Section 24-1 of the Criminal Code of 2012; or (4) any pneumatic gun, spring gun, paint ball gun, or B-B gun which expels a single globular projectile not exceeding .18 inch in diameter, or which has a maximum muzzle velocity of less than 700 feet per second, or which expels breakable paint balls containing washable marking colors. |
