I'm heading back to eastern pa next week and was hoping the lightning bugs will still be around. How long are they normally out and about, doing their thing?

They are out now and should be for the rest of the month.

Used to see hundreds every night in the summer, last week one night I saw 2.

They are out and active near my house. I live in the Fox Chase section of Philadelphia.

They're out right now.  Usually they peak around the first week of July.  Around 7-8:30-ish you  can see thousands rising up out of the cornfields here.

Lightning bugs are one of my earliest memories.

My mom put the ones I caught in a jar, and released
them after I fell asleep.

I was so young.

Moved out of PA almost 10 years ago and just came back last weekend.
One of the things I missed was fireflies.
Last night, I looked out at the wood line at the edge of the yard and saw the familiar blinking.
Would have been awesome if it wasn't also 85 degrees!
