My wife's family is from Elkhart, and we met at Purdue. I grew up in West Texas and live outside of DFW now, and every time we visit (up here now) I have a harder time going back to TX. I love Indiana, colder winters, and big trees. A few nights ago it was almost sweatshirt weather, wonderful.
It has been our theoretical long term plan to one day move up here. I have some real estate pending sale that will necessitate purchasing something somewhere, and am just not excited about buying more in TX.
Any recommendations for where to look? Call my target area as North of Indy. I'm looking for something either with a large pond on the property, or lake or river frontage. More than 50 acres with some woods (def over 20 acres), some crop land is fine too but I need some trees. My in-laws don't really venture past the city limits ahd aren't help. I'm not looking for something like a lake house on Simonton lake (for example) shoulder to shoulder with neighbors. Excavating or enlarging a pond is in the cards. Western Ohio is possible too.
Thanks for the pointers. A good rural RE agent would be appreciated, understanding that it's a year out at least to buy anything.
Thanks
