Between the house, church and now back to work I really haven't been out much. I lived in Dana as a kid and still love that area, really want to get over there. Anyway thought this thread might be a place to post up what you've seen.Attachment Attached File

Thanks for sharing.
Looking at the devastation of Appalachia I'm about in tears so I try not to look for very long at the destruction.
We were very fortunate in Morganton.
I have 17 trees down that I've been working on cleaning up and hauling to the road for eventual pickup.

I personally have not but they have setup several offices, my neighbor had more extensive water damage than we did. They have an office set up at the Transylvania county Library and she went yesterday to apply for help with repair costs. I've not seen them in person and am not going to propagate rumors and stories I cannot confirm. That being said we all know one idiot acting on his own "authority " can certainly color a situation and make things look bad. If there is anyone here still believes the government is going to ride in on a white horse and save the day I'd say they're not locals or they've been sleeping under a rock for the last two weeks. Our Pastor has called for a on hands on deck today and we're heading over to try and get tons of food, water and supplies staged, boxed and ready for distribution. Plus we have already been in the upper 30s for a couple of nights and still have thousands without power or water.

There are a shitload of FEMA trailers and tents set up in Hickory near the Speedway and the Community College.

You know, where they are needed most.

People literally sleeping under tarps and whatever tent they can find in Spruce Pine with snow falling on them.

Took these this evening, still roads out and tree work everywhere you go. Lots more tourists in town this week, the local businesses need them but seeing all these neighbors with blue tarps on their roofs makes it difficult.

I didn't think it was respectful to take pictures but I went through Marshal and Hot Springs today and it was depressing at the state of things a month after the storm.  The NG was in Marshal at least.  They still have a very long way to go.  There are a lot of communities in NC that will need help for a long time to come.

We're about an hr into SC from the border, we go up to places my grandparents used to live in black mountain and old fort. We go hiking from Burnsville to Cherokee....breaks my heart to see all this and the ineptitude of the federal government

Good friends of mine in Houston just made a speed run with 3 trucks and trailers full of goods

I wish you guys well and hope it will eventually come back to some sort of normal

Black Mountain Municipal Pool is taking in and
giving out food & goods to locals, as they receive
them. I dropped off a load yesterday, and they are
in need of bottled water. The municipal water
system is up and running but not yet drinkable,
so I'm going to make another run with a load of
bottled water. If anyone wants to make a run,
contact them to see what their needs are today.

Beth is the manager. Her number is 828-778-0169.

Later!
