I had to force my senior to add OSU to her visit list So how'd it go? Itwas just like Virginia tech- with a lot more rainbow flags While I laughed, it's sad. They've hijacked that place so bad real conservative kids wouldn't consider it- so kids who haven't been raised will only hear one side |

My son graduated from a STEM school and his graduating class was around 70 kids. The Wife took our son to visit OSU, and at that point we had been to visit one specific school a number of times, and I was done with the visiting. Plus, the size of the school would have swallowed him up like being dumped in the middle of the pacific ocean. UD was alright, we really liked Ohio Northern, but he ended up going to Marietta, as they were able to accommodate the specific field he wants to go into. While a liberal arts school, don't let that fool you, as it is the OG for towns settled in Ohio. |

When I was there in the 90's it was already shockingly woke. at least for this rural Ohio farmland kid. rainbow flags didn't exist yet, so it wasn't as in your face. But it was definitely pushed in non-STEM classes. There was shockingly little in organic chemistry or in History of the Vietnam War which was taught be a SAR helo pilot. He had ROTC bring M14's and M4's and SKS's to show. There was a ton of it in Sociology. |

We went to a few already. I liked Virginia tech a lot. Mom and her sister are going to Texas and they are doing T A&M, UTA & Rice. I really wish OSU wasn't so woke. I would love for her to hang out with us another few years. I guess that's a good thing- that i don't want her gone |

| My two kids are currently enrolled at OSU main campus. The oldest has not stepped foot on campus in about a year. Youngest might go once a week at best. All their classes are on-line. If that is any solace about campus exposure. Freshman year might be different. Both transferred into OSU after their freshman year at other colleges. |

This reminds me of my pretty cool OSU story. When I was a teen, my dad told me about partying at OSU during home football games. He attended OU, and they drove up to OSU to party. During an OSU home game vs Michigan(this would have been in the '67-71 era) my dad told me that he was on High St where they were celebrating. Suddenly an in-ground style gasoline storage tank came rolling down High Street and rolled into the parking lot were they were standing, and into a building wall near his group of friends. He said he could only imagine explaining to his parents how he was injured at OSU in that fashion while attending OSU. As a 15 year old, I assumed it was made up or exaggerated. Fast forward to the 90's and I am now an OSU student. A couple years later, I finish school and stay in Columbus, like 90% of OSU kids probably did back then. I make a friend of an older man, as a business acquaintance. He's in his late 40's or early 50's. Somehow we are talking about OSU football games and out of control celebrations on High St. That's when he tells me about being on High St himself, and there was a gas station on High that was under construction and some guys had started rolling a giant in-ground gas tank down High St and it was just rolling down the street over top of people. God, I miss Dave. He was an awesome old guy. He owned a handful of rental units just south of school on, and near King Ave. When he died just after COVID, at his funeral I learned that he had over a hundred rental units. That was after giving half to his wife in a divorce. (he always joked that he gave her all the shittiest, maintenance and tenant problem-units) I never had a clue how much real estate he owned. He drove a Plymouth Acclaim and a 15 year old Mazda P/U truck with no AC. We once evicted some people who hadn't paid rent for a few months. They were on a second story. We threw everything they owned out a picture window. One time we were looking at a house for him to flip and it smelled horribly of cat piss. He said, "Do you know what that is? That's the smell of money!" He was the funniest guy I ever knew. |

Met my wife thru the marching band (I was not in the band but worked for the school’s transportation dept). She moved every year from one cat piss apartment to another. I finally got sick of moving her and moved her into my place (mistake). I worked with Helen DeSantis whose husband Al owned a ton of properties around Ohio St. Sadly he got put in jail for securities fraud. But Helen was very nice. |

He was labeled a slumlord by his renters. He did serve about six years in prison for either taxes or questionable business practices (I forget which). It did make the local news for a while. The Lantern covered it extensively. I ate at all of the bars and restaurants on High St and around campus. Catfish Biffs and Tommy’s were my favorite. Never saw GWAR, but did see a bunch of bands at the Newport. The Offspring was probably my favorite act. Saw them every time they played there. I wonder if Longs still has all our used books? We used to go up to Graceland on the weekends to watch Rocky Horror. Unsure if that is still there or not. Also was the old Drexel theater on North High St that had the 24 hour movie marathons. I know it is no longer there. I think you have shared the YT videos before. Takes me back. Funny we never pushed either kid to go to Ohio St, but they somehow gravitated there. |

Art was a supply sergeant in Vietnam. Cool couple. Springfield closed, Columbus is still open. Not sure if they still own them or not. |

Love back to the fraternity house after his show at Stache's and partied our asses off. Now I cant even get my teens out to a show. They don't like my music. Although there is hope for the younger! As to La Bamba's, theres one in Indianapolis. We went there before a concert and IT SMEELS EXACTLY LIKE YOU (AND I REMEMBER!) Man that brought me back. Tasted the same too. Loved it! |
