We will be spending a week near Cripple Creek in a couple of weeks. Can any locals advise whether there are any public shooting ranges in that general area? I am looking for BLM or national forest areas as opposed to commercial gun ranges. Myself and a friend traveling with us are both retired law enforcement and would like to do some plinking with .22s while out riding backroads if possible. Thanks in advance for any information someone local can provide. I tried checking the fed websites for that general area but, as is the norm for them, they were not user friendly. |

North side of Highway 24 has a bunch of open public land with lots of elevation for proper backstops. This--keep going on 24 past Lake George, turn right at Rd 31 and go north toward Badger Flats, various turnoffs along the way. Get away from the main road, find an area with a good backstop, and clean up after yourself. Don't shoot trees. Look on Google Maps. |
