[Last Edit: Gentleman4561]
We have started a precision rifle match at River Bend Gun Club in Dawsonville, GA. RBGC is about an hour north of Atlanta. The match will take place first Sunday of each month (except for April 2023)

To compete in the match you will need a bolt action or semi-automatic rifle capable of shooting accurately out to 600 yards, known elevation adjustments (DOPE) out to 600 yards, and a bipod.  Round count will probably be in the 50 range, with a more precise number released a week or two before the match.

Shooting will be from a variety of positions including but not limited to tank traps, barrels, cattle gates, barricades, prone etc.

We will plan to shoot 6 8 stages on the Silhouette range, with a max of 30 shooters split into three squads of 10.     If you have any questions, please let me know.

All of this info should soon be published on https://www.rbgc.org  along with a copy of the rules, and for RBGC members you should see an announcement in the club Bullet-In next week.
https://www.rbgc.org/content.aspx?page_id=22&club_id=265856&module_id=537448

If I can answer any questions, just let me know.

Thanks, Luke

Luke,

Will all stages be on the silhouette range (500m)?

At this time yes, once we get the match up and running/proofed we might explore incorporating the high power range.

RBGC prefers matches to only use one venue though, so we don't want to be a burden there.

Very interesting Luke.
Just built a 576 yd rifle range up i-85 at my cabin so pretty use to the distance. Heck atleast we don't have to shoot around cows, horses and jackasses like I do now 😎

I’ll cover the match fee for the first 3 GA HTF members to sign up who haven’t shot a PRS/NRL event before.

All you’ll need to cover is a rifle/ammo and your time and transportation. Basically, a free trial at a match!!

PM me with a code for you to use.

Will there be a place to check zero?

I spent the last few minutes convincing myself to give this a shot but just noticed I've already got something planned for the 25th unfortunately.
I'm in for a future event and have a few questions though. I've shot out to 600yds and was able to get hits reliably on silhouette targets just using Strelok. Would the numbers from Strelok be good enough? What size are the targets for the match?

Great opportunity to push your skills out to distance.

I'm a tentative yes, as I have a long range class the week before and MOA the weekend after.

Not sure my wife will be quite that understanding.

No, please have that covered before hand.

It takes up far too much time.

Now, if you can find a RBGC member, they might come out a bit early and have you as a guest on one of the other ranges there.

They should be assuming your other data is good, but not ideal.

Smallest target will be a 1" x 2" bar at 225 yards.

But, plenty of targets will be over 1 MOA.

I probably won't be winning, but would 5.56 be acceptable/suitable for something like this?

I would think so. Looks like targets will be inside of 550yds, which a 223/5.56 can do with ease. It won’t cut through the wind like a 6mm, but it would work. I may run my 223.

Yes, the match will have two divisions.

One for 5.56/308 and one for any other calibers.

Based on hits alone, future matches might have some no-shoots/hostages.

Misses will only count against you on one stage, a KYL (know your limits) stage where your score will reset if you miss.

Thanks for putting it on!

Change of plans, RBGC has moved us from the 4th Sunday to the 1st and we will have our next match on December 4th.

You can "join" our club via practiscore to get updates via email at this link https://practiscore.com/clubs/river_bend_sniper_match/membership/join?fbclid=IwAR36cqURHCX7att1s72TlPFj9FlUZNNs4LZ6rpIBR3K0UcudQ2xB4I0sBP8

The name also changed, evidently "sniper" sounded scary, so we are now a precision rifle match.

Dec 4 sucks, as I will be away, but I will join the next one after that.  Assuming you let my FAL in, lol.  "precision" may not be the exact right word.

Of course, I don't have much experience with FALs, but if it can shoot 1" groups at 100 I would say it will be just fine.

Anything bigger than that, and you will probably struggle.

Nah mate, FAL's more like minute of man - i have one gun that's accurate at distance and they don't let me shoot it on the 500yd silhouette range.

Accuracy equation
Shooter/ammo/weapon

If you have good enough glass and ammo, it may be worth it just to come out and see your limits.

Irons? Unless you're Simo Haya, then you're just turning money into noise.

Which is also cool. Shoot it anyways.

Shoot the match. Look up your drop online.

2-300 doesn't make any really difference, and the 525 yard targets only matter for windage shooting a .223.

Download Strelok pro or a similar ballistics app and get a good velocity on your ammo. That will work to start.
