This ruling was about ATF overstepping (again) with their rule making. Bad week for the ATF. First was the ATF pistol brace rule smack down by a TX US District Court, now a SCOTUS smack down on ATF Bump Stock rule. Basically the courts are saying that if you want to ban them, the legislature not the AT has to do it. Now of course is the question, ATF likely won't take these losses lying down, so what are they going to do next (in retaliation) to stick it to gun owners?

Sotomayor did make one statement in her dissent on the evils of bump stocks that is a positive for us.  She said; "He did so by affixing bump stocks to commonly available, semiautomatic rifles." OOOPS. She just admitted (the quite part gun grabbers don't like to talk about out loud) that an AR-15 is a semiautomatic rifle and is commonly available.

So I wonder what these means for folks who surrendered their stocks to ATF, and also what it means for those who did not?

ATF had stated that pretty much- none, zero were turned in!

Is the ATF appealing their brace case smackdown to the Supreme Court?  They must be very bruised after the bump stock ruling.

Doesn't appear they have.... yet. They were probably waiting for Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo (Chevron deference) to come out from SCOTUS. Now that it has they're probably weighing the courts opinions in Cargill and Raimondo and debating what to do next.
