...because the election commission is allowing a republican to run for his seat in the fall.  Mitchell claims that his reelection campaign is going to cost him thousands of dollars more than it should, because he is not being allowed to run unopposed.

This is the same TN representative that rambled on about a daycare worker having been arrested for threatening to shoot up a daycare (and was found to have a gun in her purse inside the daycare, when police arrested her) in his argument against the teacher carry bill.

Mitchell argues the election commission heard testimony outside the legally permissible statute of limitations in making its decision to validate five of Webb’s signatures. Had the commission stuck to the only legally allowable evidence — the nominating petition and a signer’s voter registration card — it would not have been able to validate Webb’s signatures

Dude may have a point.

Recall that Barack Hussein Obama got his start by lawfaring his way to public office.

When you need signatures, its on you to make sure you have enough valid signatures.  And know the other team is going to scrutinize every one.

If he has a point, then couldn't Justin Jones's opponent sue on the same grounds.  Jones faced a challenge to his petition for the next election, with names being misspelled by some of the persons that signed the petition - seems an easy call to disqualify the signatures - but Jones was allowed to call witnesses, including a woman who apparently explained that her signature is heavily influenced by her mood, and the hearing resulted in the challenge being rejected.

Politics is show business for ugly, stupid people.  Local politics is show business for very ugly, very stupid people.

To your point, there are two standards.  There are people you can't challenge unless you have big balls and have a clean kill on them.  Jones is one of them.
