I’ve been there a few times, my sister has a lake house there. It’s kinda touristy in the summer because of the lake. East of it gets real rural/hillbilly-ish quick. Laural county is next to it and gets real shady with methbillys…I’ve spent way more time there. All in all id say it’s a good place if you like a mini city in east ky, lots of Lexington people go there for the lake. About an hour south of lex. |
| They've experienced significant growth in the last decade. Have a few decent chain style restaurants. 3 nice hotels. Most everything is on one long strip. Stoplights... tons of stoplights for what used to be a rural-ish city. It's at the end of the Cumberland Parkway which leads to all things west and is easy access to I-75. All of the roads that currently lead to Somerset are decent. It's the west edge of Eastern Standard Time. Our time zones in KY are pretty jacked up. If I was going to live in SE KY - Pulaski County would be the hub of choice. |

We have a place about 30 min west of Somerset that we are at almost every weekend during the summer. We drive over from Middle TN. Somerset isn't bad and is where we go mostly for groceries and hardware runs if needed. Be prepared for the OH Navy if you plan to boat on Cumberland. All in all it's a nice town IMO. |

My wife lived there for years. The town was growing a decade ago. They are making some major road expansions around the town and how people get there from I-75. Unless there is some major recession that town is primed for a big time boom in growth. As it is though the town still has a small time feel. They have a small mall that doesn't get much growth. The big box stores like Lowes and Walmart. Lots of smaller restaurants. The lake is the big draw as it is really the first accessible town from I-75 near the lake. All the marina's have major expansion projects going on as well. That said high paying and technical jobs are rather limited. That said it is on the less desirable end of the lake, narrower with fewer marinas. |
Get Active or Get Disarmed! That means get involved in helping good candidates in primary and general election. That is in addition to being politically active once they are elected.
