I’m “generally” familiar with Boise/Nampa/Caldwell. Those are not places I would typically feel motivated to relocate to but a property has caught our attention in Weiser. Idaho is a very diverse state with several different regions and characteristics-but I have only driven through Weiser on my way to Boise once. It was pretty unremarkable as I recall. Good, bad, and the ugly are all welcome comments. I’m a northern Idaho guy…. Temporarily living behind enemy lines in the communist clown kingdom of WA. |

Im in Council, so typically only drive through as well. Weiser is bigger than it seems. It seems to have a nice downtown area, pretty historic and it looks like it offers quite a bit of variety. They have a nice Ridley's/Ace Hardware, a new Maverick just opened up with diesel, and Snake River Feed store. Hwy 201 can get you to the east side of Ontario easily, as well as quicker to Baker City. The Weiser River Trail starts there and heads north, following the river. It does flood along the river in the spring, occasionally I prefer to shop locally, but I enjoy the Ontario Home Depot for the tax free shopping. There is a trap shoot facility north of town, you probably seen it and Parma gun club is, maybe an hour away. |

Thanks! This property we are looking at is on the Weiser River Trail…this would be THE reason for our move.”flooding occasionally” might be a deal breaker. The Weiser looks like a wild River- no dams? Is this trail heavily used? I know crime increases with population. I’m currently in a SMALL town. Nearest stop light is an hour away. This would be a move to the big city for us. What’s happening with crime in the area you’re in? I forgot about Oregon no taxes!  |

There are no dams on the Weiser. Several years ago I heard it was being studied. I havent heard anything since and hopefully is dead. It would destroy the trail among other things. I remember riding the trail from Weiser and seeing the debris in the fields from floods (mid 20 teens). Since we've lived up here, one year (2019 or 2020?) traffic was detoured through oregon since Hwy95 was flooded south of the bridge. As far as crime near me, Ive heard rumors of stuff happening, but it doesn't hang around. We're also out of town a few miles and neighbors keep an eye out for each other. Each town is different and has it's own personality. We had a business in town for a few years and that helped us meet and make friends with many people. Weiser could be different since it is larger. Less chance of being seen as an outsider, regardless of where you're from. I think the snow accumulation is generally more like the valley. It gets heavier from Manns Creek/Midvale. |
| I left Weiser 5 years back. I came from Texas before my time there and was viewed as a carpet bagger. There's not much that's happening in Weiser. Absolutely no jobs there unless you bring one. Some happy people there but the majority are broke and angry. Most are either on welfare, disability or social security. YMMV |

Everyone—-EVERYONE I met when I first moved there wanted to have that pissing contest of “who has been there the longest”. At the time I was married to a women who could generally win that match in the Priest River area with her family bona fides and so I was regarded as legit. My grandfather is buried in Boise and had been there since 1912. I’m legit enough although changing tags is priority #1. We’re retired and “not much happening” suits us fine- We’ll just go ride our horses then. |

Across the river in Oregon. The far side of Oregon though, not by the border. I just want to shoot 100 yards or less. In Oregon you just go find a pull out on the side of the road and shoot stuff. There are multiple places within a mile of my house where people shoot on public land. Just want to make sure I can do that in Idaho. |

Thanks. We like it. We were lucky to get in before land prices went nuts. Building material prices however...  Hasnt been much snow this year. We usually have a couple feet by now. It's been so warm and rainy, but weather is changing, now it will be around 20* lows, but that's still pretty warm really. |

We visited, looked the place over, made an offer contingent on the home inspection. The home inspection revealed a number of BIG issues. 40 years of DIY stuff. Now we are talking to electrical, plumbing, and foundation contractors. To be continued ………. Btw No one has anything bad to say about Weiser. |

There's a group on Facebook called weiser happenings. Some of the posts on there are kind of disheartening. One recent post was from a local Mexican restaurant saying they'll be closed in solidarity with illegals because of the deportations. Then reading the replies it looks like 75% of people are liberals calling people "uneducated". It's makes me wonder what it feels like on the ground over there? |

Dear Goodness buying a house these days is a pain in the ass. Lots of triangulated communications but it might actually happen….. glad I didn’t hold my breath though. Can’t escape the clown kingdom of WA soon enough. Of course we did it the hardest possible way….

| I am about 15 minutes from the Parma range and a member there. I like to shoot long range out at the Vale range better though. I like Wieser, at one time I knew half of the cops there but they have since all rotated to different agencies and most to Oregon because the pay is better. |

Looking forward to stretching my long range muscles again and Parma is one of the major draws for us to move south into that area. Vale has a long target range. It just keeps getting better.
