| I will be in LA for work soon. I have a TX LTC. Anything I need to be aware of? Concealed carry seems good to go but figured I'd check with y'all. |

Liquor stores are not a prohibited place, nor are places with armed security, barring signs posted by the establishment. The relevant part from R.S. 40:1379.3 is as follows: M. No concealed handgun may be carried into and no concealed handgun permit shall be valid or entitle any permittee to carry a concealed handgun in any facility, building, location, zone, or area in which firearms are banned by state or federal law. N. No concealed handgun may be carried into and no concealed handgun permit issued pursuant to this Section shall authorize or entitle a permittee to carry a concealed handgun in any of the following: (1) A law enforcement office, station, or building. (2) A detention facility, prison, or jail. (3) A courthouse or courtroom, provided that a judge may carry such a weapon in his own courtroom. (4) A polling place. (5) A municipal building or other public building or structure, only if the building or structure is utilized as the meeting place of the governing authority of a political subdivision. (6) The state capitol building. (7) Any portion of an airport facility where the carrying of firearms is prohibited under federal law, except that no person shall be prohibited from carrying any legal firearm into the terminal, if the firearm is encased for shipment, for the purpose of checking such firearm as lawful baggage. (8) Any church, synagogue, mosque, or other similar place of worship, eligible for qualification as a tax-exempt organization under 26 U.S.C. 501, unless authorized by the person who has authority over the administration of the church, synagogue, mosque, or other similar place of worship. (9) A parade or demonstration for which a permit is issued by a governmental entity. (10) Any portion of the permitted area of an establishment that has been granted a Class A-General retail permit, as defined in Part II of Chapter 1 or Part II of Chapter 2 of Title 26 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, to sell alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises. (11) Any school, school campus, or school bus as defined in R.S. 14:95.6. O.(1) The provisions of Subsection N of this Section shall not limit the right of a property owner, lessee, or other lawful custodian to prohibit or restrict access of those persons possessing a concealed handgun pursuant to a permit issued under this Section or a person lawfully carrying a handgun pursuant to R.S. 14:95(M). (2) No individual to whom a concealed handgun permit is issued or who is lawfully carrying a handgun pursuant to R.S. 14:95(M) may carry a concealed handgun into the private residence of another without first receiving the consent of that person. N 10 means bars, restaurants are OK, though obviously most casinos are considered big bars. The references to R.S. 14:95M are about our permitless carry law. And note that the prohibition or carry at parades, despite being worded as to only apply to participants in my reading, is used in some jurisdictions to arrest people attending parades. As of August 1st, this will not be the case, as the legislature has passed a bill that will explicitly allow parade goers to carry. Also note that carry within 1000 feet of a school without a LA CHP is technically illegal under LA law, also until August 1st, as the legislature has also passed a bill including out of state permit holders and those carrying under 14:95M as allowed to carry within that distance. Also, if you travel here often and there is some issue with your TX permit, effective August 1st LA will issue CHPs to anyone, not just LA residents. (Well, technically, I imagine LSP will take a bit of time to get the out of state process rolling.) |

So as not to start another thread, I thought I’d add to this thread. My wife and I are heading to LA for the holidays. I plan on bringing an AR pistol with an FRT installed. From what I’ve read, both aren’t an issue to possess there. I won’t be carrying it, just to have when I’m on a trip. Easier to conceal in luggage without bringing a rifle case into the hotels. I have a TX LTC. Anything I missed as to legalities? |

It looks like you are good to go (though I am not a lawyer.) "§1751. Definitions For purposes of this Part, "machine gun" means any weapon which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot automatically more than one shot without manual reloading by a single function of the trigger. The term shall also include the frame or receiver of any such weapon, and any part designed and intended solely and exclusively, or combination of parts designed and intended, for use in converting a weapon into a machine gun. The term shall not include items that are not required to be registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record maintained by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Acts 1932, No. 80, §1; Acts 2023, No. 120, §1." As far as the brace goes, SBRs are not illegal under state law here anyway, so as long as it's good federally it's fine. |
