WISCONSIN - A man from Clinton Township in Macomb County has been given a $50,000 cash bond after he was arrested and jailed in Oneida County for allegedly threatening county circuit judge Michael Schiek and the publisher of the Lakeland Times, Gregg Walker. Peter Gruich, was arrested and charged with making threats to a judge and threatening injury or harm via computer. In investigating the threats, Detective Sergeant Gary Loduha made the connection between events mentioned in the emails sent to Judge Schiek and Gregg Walker to social media posts made by the owner of Minocqua Brewing Company, Kirk Bangstad. While investigating, Sgt. Loduha discovered that Gruich had been on the radar of the Sterling Heights Police Department in 2012, 2018 & 19 and was known for making violent threats. In addition to posting a cash bond, the judge ordered that Gruich not use or access to the internet and to have no contact with the victims. |

Gruich’s attorney said he regrets any contact with Kirk Bangstad or anyone associated with him. Gruich will return to court at a later date for his preliminary hearing on those threat charges. If convicted of threatening a judge, Gruich faces a maximum sentence of 6 years in prison and 90 days for threatening Gregg Walker. |

The Board of appeals ultimately decided to keep Bangstad’s conditional use permit for Minocqua Brewing Company revoked. Bangstad will not legally be able to operate his storefront in Minocqua. In October 2023, Bangstad agreed to a conditional use permit for his business — Minocqua Brewing Company, After failing to meet the parts of the agreement, the Oneida County Zoning committee revoked Bangstad’s permit last summer. At yesterday’s board of appeals public hearing, Bangstad alleged selective enforcement being weaponized against him because of his progressive politics. |

Bangstad made the request in order to open an outdoor beer garden at the Brewing Company. Federal district Judge James Peterson said in an order at the end of April that granting a temporary restraining order against the county, which revoked Bangstad’s permit would have to allow the county time to be notified and respond, and that the late date at which the Bangstad filed his request precluded that, and that he had since July of last year when the permit was originally revoked to do so. Bangstad contends that the continued revocation of the conditional use permit impedes his ability to do business by not having the beer garden open. Haha, fuck off. |

He opened his Minocqua business on schedule on Thursday May 1st without the necessary operating permits, in open defiance of county zoning ordinances. His days of operation currently are Thursday-Sunday ... 4 days per week. So far he's been open 4 days without a valid CUP. Oneida County has yet to do anything, nor have any state authorities. Without valid couny zoning permits he cannot have a state license to sell beer. Nor can he have a brewery tap room license to bypass a liquor license. Brewery licenses require the beer he sells to be brewed on the premises... which it's not, it's brewed by others for him under contract, and down near Madison. His Minocqua "Brewery" is in an old Texaco gas station, it's not very big.

He may be violating state liquor laws also, as even if he has a federal brewery license he still needs a local permit and a class B state liquor license to operate a tap room off premises from where his beer is actually brewed. The state's "DOA" (division of alcoholic beverages, part of dept of revenue) issues and enforces state liquor laws. they haven't issued any fines as of yet. If he doesn't pay the county ordinance fines, liens will be filed against the subject property. If the amount of liens get great enough, the county can file for a "tax foreclosure" on the property to collect on the liens. All that will be up to a (local) judge. What will happen in the real world... he'll take it far as he can without paying the fines, then just before the property gets forclosed upon, his followers will foot the bill to pay off the fines through their donations to "save" his business from those "evil good ole boys in the county gubmint"... and he gets more martyrdom and his liberal stooges pay for it... . |
