Tom's Firearms in Naugatuck was taken out by the Sunday storms and heavy flooding. Some talk about it on Reddit in the CTGuns subreddit. There are some pictures posted to Facebook of the damage.

Store and inventory is a loss apparently. Partial collapse with a portion of the store and some of it's contents (including some firearms apparently) ending up in the river. Town will supposedly demo the remaining structure.

Damn!

Google maps shows the river "Long Meadow Pond Brook" should be traveling underneath the roadway, in front of his shop, and continue so until it passes his shop and meets the other side of the road.

A lot of people unfortunately learned on Sunday that mother nature gives no fucks. It will send the water, even from a small creek or brook, were ever it wants. Hopefully Tom can rebuild.

There is a stream that runs through there, it comes Rubber Ave Ext. I saw in the paper that what used to be the 7-11, has a different name now, there was road damage there. IIRC that stream is called Long Meadow Brook and originates in Middlebury at the end of Long Meadow.

I hope he's insured! This might be the right time to get out of the business. The gun business is rough right now. Odds are he would not have survived his next compliance inspection and been forced out of business anyway. With the insurance company paying for all his inventory it would be a huge windfall. If he does not go out of business and his records were washed away with his inventory his next compliance inspection will be simple.

Been wondering about how the ATF would treat what has happened. Guns and ATF paperwork goes into the drink and likely not recoverable, and even stuff recovered is likely in usable condition. Does ATF pull out the reamer tool and go to town on the FFL who suffers such a catastrophe? Or do they quietly infer that it would be a good time for the FFL to retire from the business?

Hey this is Tom from Toms firearms , a few things , insurance doesn’t pay out unless theft, I was already denied, my atf inspection went fine in June , no idea why you would say I wouldn’t have survived an inspection anyway, it’s not that difficult unless you are referring to the stores that have been closed down last 3 years . If you guys want to know just ask !

I was with local PDs last 3 days on recovery , if you didn’t see everyone in water , about 98% recovered , complete loss .  The community has been great , as far as the atf is concerned,  surprising  they are working with me and a couple towns to get me back up and going again until than what was salvaged I will still transfer out of parking lot “ premise”  per the atf . The community has been great  in support

Hi Tom. I did not say you would not survive. I said odds are you would not, not because of you because of ATF. They are shutting everybody down for simple stuff. The fact you passed is a testament to your record-keeping skills. Sorry for your loss.

Went to Tom's reopening in Bethany Saturday and the place was PACKED. Much bigger space and he had a ton of inventory. Awesome to see the community support the shop.
