I'm sitting here wanting to go the range. It's 60 miles each way, 120 miles round trip. It took 5 hours total of driving last time I went. I went and came home during non-rush hours. That's 24 mph average for 5 hours. That is just over my normal bicycling speed. At times, it has taken me over 4 hours go one way. That's only 15 mph - bicycling speed, for sure. Gasoline is now about $6/gallon, too - double the cost of the rest of the Nation. The money isn't the problem, it's just the fact that the cost is so very high here in California. At that price, it cost $36 in gas to go shooting because mileage is so low in stop and go traffic. |

This doesn't discuss traffic but it certainly talks about the price of gasoline - "A USC study warns California gas prices could reach $8 per gallon. With the Benicia refinery set to close in April, supply will tighten and prices could climb even higher. This isn’t just an affordability issue. It's a national security concern. Nice range but could get crowded and some of the rangemaster were assholes. I discovered Burro. Low volume of people, very relaxed, those of us shooting would make our own line breaks. Not too strict. Then SGVGC got shut down and all of those people started going to Burro. Got very crowded, asshole range guys went over to Burro, too. Just became unpleasant. I stopped going. Went back recently with my brother and his wife. Rangemaster on the rifle side was a raging asshole and also a liar. Now my brother's wife is afraid to go shooting again. Such an ambassador for the shooting sports! The guy running the pistol side was cool, though. Typical range experience reminds.me of why I usually just go to my spot in thr desert, instead. I am in college up north now and go to Circle S in Petaluma, but it's a pretty good drive. Not too bad, but it is limiting because of how it is constructed. I wonder where gas is $6. I am in the SF Bay area and I usually pay less than $4 a gallon. |

I'm looking into buying a new car. One hybrid option gets great gas mileage. At $5/gal, you save $11k on gas over the first 100k miles. That savings represents a 20% reduction in the life cycle cost of buying, maintaining and driving the car. It does absolutely NOTHING to reduce drive times on out freeways.
