https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cd1d31jeyzlo Secret Service agents have rushed former President Donald Trump off stage after loud noises rang out at a rally in Pennsylvania. Footage showed him grimace and raise a hand to his ear, before ducking as sharp cracks - apparently shots - broke out. He was quickly swarmed by secret service agents and rushed off stage to a waiting vehicle. Trump, who appeared to have blood on his right ear, raised a fist as he was led off stage. Armed police took to the podium soon after. In a statement, the Secret Service said Trump was safe and that measures for his protection had been implemented. They added that an active investigation was now under way and that further information would be released when available. Edit: There are reports of bystanders being hit as well. |

Local officer encountered gunman just before he shot toward Trump at rally, sources tell AP
Not long before shots rang out, rallygoers noticed a man climbing to the roof of a nearby building and warned local police, according to two law enforcement officials. One local police officer climbed to the roof and encountered Crooks, who pointed his rifle at the officer. The officer retreated down the ladder, and Crooks quickly took a shot toward Trump, and that’s when Secret Service snipers shot him, said the officials, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation. The officials also told AP that bomb-making materials were found inside Crooks’ vehicle, and bomb-making materials were found at his home. Investigators believe the weapon Crooks used was purchased by his father at least six months ago, the law enforcement officials said. Federal agents were still working to understand when and how his son obtained the gun and to gather additional information about Crooks, according to the officials. Crooks’ political leanings were not immediately clear. Records show Crooks was registered as a Republican voter in Pennsylvania, but federal campaign finance reports also show he gave $15 to a progressive political action committee on Jan. 20, 2021, the day President Joe Biden was sworn in to office. |

If true this raises more questions.
Alleged Trump shooter spotted by law enforcement nearly 30 minutes before shots fired, sources say According to multiple sources, a law enforcement officer had also previously seen Crooks on the ground and called him in as a suspicious person with a picture prior to 5:45 p.m. Our sources tell us an officer checked the grounds for Crooks at that point, but did not see him where the first picture was taken. 26 minutes after the second picture of Crooks was taken by law enforcement and the information called in, shots were fired from the roof of the American Glass Research building. Seconds later, a Secret Service sniper returned fire and killed Crooks. |
