Howdy All, I have a friend that has a Condo in Frisco. Planning to spend almost a full week up in the area. I want to coincide this trip with the Fall tree leaves color change. Also, we plan to spend a day in Taylor Park Reservoir. What other places would you recommend to hike, see, fish, drive, and eat? Thanks for any suggestions. CMOS |

Around the third week of September to early October for Summit County (Frisco). It does depend on the weather. Taylor Park? I imagine it'll be getting cold at night by then. Beautiful place, the settlement down by the dam end used to have horrible nighttime lighting, lit up the entire valley, it was an eyesore. Don't know if they ever got rid of those lights. The aspen turn earlier the farther north you are, later in the south. Might plan a trip north to south through central Colorado, the spine of the Rockies run south from Leadville, along the Sawatch Range. Lots of aspen along the way. Twin Lakes, Buena Vista, Salida, maybe down to the San Luis Valley or down the Front Range to Trinidad and points west. From Taylor Park to Gunnison is nice too, and points S/SW if you have time. Go to Montrose and head south into the San Juans. |

We moved up here from Texas and spend lots of time in the little adjoining towns of Frisco, Silverthorne, Dillon, Keystone, Breckenridge, etc. You can fish the Blue River just 3-4 miles away, as it goes through the town of Silverthorne, north of Dillon Reservoir (C&R from the dam downstream north to Silverthorne's city limits). You can hike North Ten Mile Creek, the trailhead is right next to Frisco. The Red Mountain Cafe in the neighboring town of Dillon has a great menu and mountain views. The Frisco Marina, on Dillon Reservoir also has a good menu and great views from their rooftop seating area. Bike rental shops can rent you conventional or E-bikes and there is a great paved bike trail that goes completely around Dillon Reservoir. I used to make fun of E-bikers, but now I own an E-bike and wouldn't go back. Driving south from Frisco through Fairplay on Hwy 9 / 285 or through Leadville on I-70 / Hwy 91 / 24 will both get you on a great scenic drive down to Taylor Park Reservoir. As already mentioned, the fall foliage change is weather dependent, but usually starts mid-September and ends the second or third week in October. It's a great time of year but bring your jackets. There are lots of "ok" places, but one place where I take the wife for special occasions is the Briar Rose Chop House & Saloon in Breckenridge, CO. Need reservations, but always consistently great service and food. Briar Rose |

I love Frisco. It's right in the middle of everything. Here's some of my favorite things nearby. Outer Range Brewing - Fantastic Beers. They have an outside deck on the 2nd floor where you can drink beer and look at 270 degrees of mountain views. Sapphire Point - It's an easy loop trail (about a mile), or you can just hike to the overlook. Spectacular. Shrine Pass Trail - This takes me about 40 minutes, so depending on how fast you are, plan an hour to ascend. It's got unrivaled views of the Gore Range and other mountains. Relatively easy. Continental Falls / Mohawk Lakes - beautiful area, strenuous hiking near the top Breckenridge Gondola - traverses up a hill and over the Cucumber Gulch protected area- can see wildlife sometimes. Free. In Summer, the gondola is open from the end of mid-June to mid-September. It operates from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. The last ride up is at 5:00 pm and the last ride down is 5:30 pm. |

Hey, what are the average temperatures for the last week of September and the first few days of October? Need an idea of what clothing we need to bring. CMOS |

CMOS In Scummit County? Highs anywhere from 0-80 dusting the day, lows -20 to 40 or so. Probably the upper ends of those ranges with minimal snow overnight, but no promises. You can literally experience all four seasons in any 24-hour period at that altitude and that time of year. It's the charm of Colorado. |

CMOS Not joking when I say it could be 75 degrees or it could be 10 degrees. It's a very variable time of year. We get some gorgeous fall days with bright sunny skies and warm temps. We get blizzards (esp. in the high country). Could also have cold rain. Cool/cold mornings. Although if you are wearing shorts and a T-shirt, you can always throw a fleece and a knit cap on to go from 70s to 50s. Wearing shorts and a jacket isn't that weird around here. @djkest We did Continental Falls yesterday, and yes we made it to the top! Not for the feint of heart. It's a serious hike. Once we reached the in-tact Mining Cabin, and the nearby Mining Sleuth equipment, the next 200-250' of vertical climb is Billy-goat territory. We'd climb 10-15 feet, then rest for a minute or two. GREAT day out there. Got some amazing pics and videos (see below). Once back at the Condo we were BEAT like a rented mule. Had dinner at 5th Avenue Grill in Frisco. Great day!
