....on the commie Orb Weaver Spiders. Just hosed the outside of the house with 13% Permethrin. DIE SPIDERS DIE.  Normally I dont care if spiders are outside. But for fucks sake they are making webs in front of the doors, between the cars and from the house to the tree right where I would walk into it. Also orb weaver silk is freaking strong. It just doesnt rub right off, you nearly have to pull it off. |

My war was with bald-faced hornets. I built a "battle-bot" to eliminate a nest on a low hanging branch on a flowering crab apple tree right next to my driveway. It consisted of a garden hose fastened to the mounting arm of an old Direct Tv dish with zip ties, which was fastened to a garden wagon with bigger zip ties. I set the hose on it's tightest stream, then waited until 10pm, rolled the wagon directly under the nest, then turned the water on from 80' away. Blew that nest into smithereens.  The next day, I used my truck to run over what was left of the nest...with all windows rolled up. They were dive bombing my windshield, but with the nest destroyed, they soon left the area. The next summer, I found a huge nest the size of a basketball under the roof overhang of my pole barn. Pole barn is a monitor building, 36'x36', with the center 12' section being 18" taller. That's where the nest was, under top roof overhang. The nest was too high to reach from the ground with hornet spray, so I got the bastards from the inside out.  I had built a storage loft in that extra height. I counted the ribs in the steel siding from the end of the building to where the nest was. I went up into the loft, counted ribs on inside and marked the spot. I was exactly on the other side of the steel siding from the nest. The plastic intake straw on a pump spray bottle of Armor All is the perfect size to slide over the spray nozzle of Black Flag hornet killer ( I like the foamy stuff). So I rigged up my can with the straw, measured the O.D. of the straw with a dial caliper. I used a drill bit .005" bigger from my numbered bit set, to drill a hole through the steel siding, right into the center of the nest. I then inserted the Armor All straw into the hole, and dumped the entire can into the nest.... at 11pm when I knew they'd all be "home". The hole was probably too small for them to crawl through, but I wasn't taking any chances. I stuck a rare earth magnet over the hole when I finished spraying the little commie bastards into oblivion. The next morning the damage was evident. The roof section below the nest was covered in dead hornets, 1,000 or more, and the paper nest was totally melted away.  Unfortunately, I probably killed a bunch of crows too, as they spotted all the poisoned little bastards on the tan colored roof at sunrise, and gobbled a bunch up before I washed them all off the roof with a garden hose.
