Trip to Newport - brought an auto knife and a taser and googled laws when I got here.  I can't figure it out and I don't really care to.  Newport is full of homeless crackheads.  I'm four blocks off the waterfront and pretty sure someone is gonna jack my rims overnight.  Walked the dog back to some of the restaurants and shops we walked by earlier and the alleys smell like pot and are filled with homeless and vagrants.  Can't wait to never come back here.  Anythign I should do while here that might elevate the experience and not get me shanked?

Go to Walmart grab a pole, lures and a 7dollar license and cast to the 40 lb strippers that are feeding off of Brayton Point right now.

Your Auto Knife and Taser are not legal. I doubt you will need them.

4 blocks from the waterfront…guessing you parked next to the homeless shelter.

Weed is legal here.

Good lord man, I’m not a huge fan of the state I live in, but it’s one of the lowest crime rate states in the nation, and Newport is one of the safest most protected parts of the state due to tourism intake. The state is built off tourism, especially in that area. We are the “ocean state” after all.

Concur with sgwlower's post.

Will add to it the Naval War College Museum, but you'll need to contact them and likely arrange a time/date.

If you had posted here first, possibly someone would been able to give useful advice beforehand.  Use tips mentioned and you will enjoy yourself.
