Holy shit. Unjust got a quote to replace the windows in my house. Not a huge house. I have 6 that have the seals leaking and condensation inside. Anderson windows quoted me 90K to do the whole house. But only 45K if I wanted to replace the 6 bad ones. Insanity. |

I did that work for about 3 years out of high school. My boss (RIP) charged twice the price of the window per hole, $200 window cost another $200 to install and so on. He would do work for Home Base and Home Depot and they were about 10x the window cost to install and HE made less money for the job doing it for them than doing it himself. Take a skill saw set the depth to just cut deep enough to cut off the nail fin and run it up the outside edge of the windows frame to cut the nail fin off the existing window. Cut the nail fin off your new one with a razor knife and drop it in the hole. You can score it heavy and snap it off with a rubber mallet too. You might need to take the inside wood trim out (You can leave the sill part assembled and take the trim that nails to the wall face off) and run it through a table saw to adjust how much window sticks in/out of the hole. Sorry if you're in one of those houses where they just sheet rocked the window sill. Lowes usually has these cool vinyl hole plugs that allow you to drill through the visible first/interior layer of the window frame and screw into the stud retaining it by the exterior layer of the extrusion and also hiding the screw head then just snap the plug into the hole. https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Nylon-Hole-Fastener-Furniture/dp/B0F18B63JB I know that now you're supposed to do a bunch of sill tape stuff to try to help prevent moisture intrusion if you care, it wasn't really a thing back then, you caulked the window with a good flexible caulk and not Vulkem. I think the last one I did on my house I did the tape let it lay over onto the siding and then wrapped the outside of the window with 1x4 to hide the tape and not need to remove a bunch of siding and caulked that in.. Editing to add you can talk to a glass shop and order replacement glass panes too. You'll need to carefully take the retaining pieces off to get an accurate measurement for glass Height Width and overall thickness. The glass itself is usually just held in with 2 way tape and the retaining pieces on the outside. a small prybar/putty knife will get the retaining pieces out, just push on them a little where they meet the frame and you should see the movement. For the two way tape something a like a cheap flexible fillet knife could easily slide between the glass and frame to cut. We'd just put a layer of silicone down where the tape was after cleaning it all off with some goof off and install the pane of glass when we did that route. |

I just finished installing four Cascade windows, made in Spokane in my old add-on. In stucco, in a strawbale wall of an addition I did thirty years back. Cost me $1500 for a 4'x5', 2@ 3'x3' and a 2'x3'. Trim and flashing another $200 or so. I can imagine the cost of building a place today and it is not pretty. |

The water heater took a shit on my last night. Was headed to get new French door from the home depot and looks like I’ll also be buying a water heater as well. This one is dated 2017 and that seems about like when I replaced it. |
