If anyone has children 8-17 that like to shoot for free Youth Day tickets are available at https://akyouthday.org/. There were a few cancellations this week so tickets are currently available for both age groups. If you aren't familiar with the event it is put on the first Saturday in June every year, which is the 7th in 2025, by the Alaska Gun Collectors Association and Birchwood Shooting Range. Volunteers from many of the shooting groups in Alaska take the kids through a series of stages where they get to shoot: Cowboy Action Black Powder Steel Challange Rimfire Rifles/Pistols Trap Small Caliber Hunting Rifles Machine Guns (*8-11 skips this stage) New events have been added: Alaska Rifle Club (digitally scored targets) (*8-11 skips this stage) Archery (8-11 only) Air Soft Challenge (8-11 only) The event is completely free, everything is provided including all the ammo and lunch. Volunteers are always needed, you get free lunch and might get to shoot something fun too. You can signup to volunteer on the website. |

Nice! I'll pass that info along to the son, maybe he'll get the grandkids out there. I don't belong to Birchwood anymore, so I don't get the notices. Thanks for posting that. |

It was an excellent event. I took three of my girls and they had a blast in spite of the cold and the stiff wind coming in off the Inlet! Some of the coaches were outstanding with what they were able to convey in a very short period of time. Offering airsoft indoors as an alternative to the steel challenge station for the younger kids was a particularly good idea. My girls liked the muzzleloaders and all of the pistol stations. Thanks to the AGCA for their generosity in sponsoring this and to all of the clubs and volunteers who staff the stations. |
