At least 50 people charged with animal cruelty in ‘significant’ police operation in Tolland Saturday Tolland Town Manager Brian Foley has shared more information about a “significant” police operation on Saturday which resulted in at least 50 people being charged with animal cruelty. According to Foley, a criminal investigation operation involving Connecticut State Police and the Connecticut Department of Agriculture took place on Saturday in connection to an alleged large-scale “cockfighting” event at a secluded quarry off Mountain Spring Road that has been inactive for more than a decade. A “significant number of arrests” took place on Saturday and at least 50 people were charged with animal cruelty. Hundreds of birds were found by investigators and “significant evidence” was recovered, according to Foley. |

Looks like up to 100 people have been arrested now over the cock fighting ring. Cockfighting arrests were part of ‘one of the largest mass investigations’ in modern state history: CSP State police say law enforcement arrested and charged 100 people who were found at a home on Mountain Spring Road in Tolland Saturday where the alleged gambling ring took place. Previous reports from town leaders who were briefed on the large-scale operation shared the gambling ring may have taken place at an abandoned quarry near the home. “This was happening in a basement, in a residence, in a neighborhood in one of our communities,” CSP Captain Katharine Coney said. “This was not happening in a vacuum.” Homeowners Elvin and Lisa Miranda were two of the dozens arrested for animal cruelty. Both have been charged with additional violations of professional gambling, risk of injury to a minor and more. The Connecticut State Department of Children and Families has also been notified of the arrests. “This is one of the largest mass arrest investigations that we’ve seen in modern state police history and that could not have been accomplished without all of our collaborative partners,” Coney said. Inside, law enforcement found $90,000 dollars and over 200 birds, all of which have been euthanized. |

I do not condone animal cruelty, but it was a relief that that’s what it was. No one knew what was happening and even though we have troop c in town, you mostly only see cruisers at shift change. They were in full force that day. |

They were in full force that day. I live in Stafford. We use troopers for policing our town. You never see them here either. Kids were vandalizing the park near me and doing donuts and burnouts. I called the cops. They said we will be right there. 45 minutes later, after everyone was gone, they did a drive down the street. |
