Hi all, long time lurker but finally decided to build an A1. I wanted a kit that had seen some use so I picked up a kit from Atlantic. The hand guards and buttstock are in great condition as is the bolt. My upper is another story. It appears to have flaking black paint on it that covers some seemingly deep pitting. I'm thinking about stripping it, but does it appear to be servicable? I'm betting that there is a 99% chance that I can't send it back, which is the gamble you take...

Yeah been screwed a couple times by Atlantic on kits. I won't order anything but new stuff from them anymore. Their customer service never replied to me despite multiple attempts. They are on my shit list unless they have something nobody else has. That upper is unacceptable. You might try sanding the fuck out of it then sending it to US Anodizing. |

The corrosion bothers me enough to think it isn't servicable. I wanted to do an A1 that had some wear and actual Colt history on it, lesson learned. I'm going to attempt stripping it and sanding it. I sent an email to US Anodizing... we'll see. I doubt I can exchange it. |

I don’t know for sure but it almost looks exactly like to one pictured in the AF website of the M16 kits: https://atlanticfirearms.com/colt-m16a1-parts-kit-cal-223 Attached File Even the description says “Fair” which is defined as “FAIR- some major parts replaced; minor replacement parts may be required; metal rusted, may be lightly pitted all over, vigorously cleaned or reblued; rounded edges of metal and wood; principal lettering, numerals and design on metal partly obliterated; wood scratched, bruised, cracked or repaired where broken; in fair working order or can be easily repaired and placed in working order.” |
