I pulled my pvs-14's out tonight after probably a month of storage. They are kept in a dark case with caps on and batteries out. One of them is blurry the other is fine. Blurry may not be the best description, when I try to focus it on a star the star appears to be multifaceted like a pentagon. Additionally, when trying to focus on other unlit objects (like my privacy fence) I'm unable to get it to become crisp like my other tube. I've tried clearing the glass with optical tissue, but it didn't help. Any thoughts on what could be causing this? Full disclosure: I did let my son use the tube to star gaze with his grandfather, so it was out of my control for about a week, but he's a responsible 22 year old and was careful about storing the tube in the same manner I do. Any input is appreciated. |

Some general focus tips- Remember to focus the front and the back. Sounds like someone else (surely with different eyesight) used the unit. They likely focused it for their eyes- as anyone would when using one. This is where the "set and forget" crowd can get tripped up, as they assume they never have to re-focus. A quick focus and adjusting of the gain to that particular night's lighting conditions should be part of the SOP every time you use a 14. Try that also. And please if it's one of ours- Marked JRH Enterprises as shown in the pic below - but could be WP3UF (Unfilmed) or WP Echo (Photonis Echo tube) but will look just like that on the data plate- If it's one of ours after trying to re-focus for your eyes if you continue to have problems shoot me an email ASAP and we will get it taken care of. ![]() We pride ourselves on 1 day turnarounds on warranty work, it's rare to have stuff happen but we average one day turnaround on warranty work. [email protected] PS- post and let us know either way if it's ours or someone else's unit, happy to help either way. |

Quick update, I was able to get out with my nods last night and couldn't replicate the problem. I'm starting to think I may have had something on my glasses that was causing the issue. Long story short, I'm probably retarded and greatly appreciate the help Robert. |
