So, which is it? Buddy, if I knew I would tell you. Reading is fundamental and I understand that the combined production of the 6920 and 6940 will be in the mid-2000 range, of which 45% to 55% will be 6940s. If I knew with more precision, I would have posted it, don't you think? |

I just got off the phone with the head of LE sales/armory at colt, And asked about the 6940 and got some great info he said I could share!!!
1st. the FCG pins are spec on this model, it will start the change over to all normall trigger pins. Also the 6940 is meant to replace the 6920, the idea being you dont have to spend extra on a rail, BUIS ites, etc. The bottom does come off like said and the new special barrel nut is a lot easier to remove the barrel. While i talked to him. He told me that yes, colt made all of their major components and always have, that means the lowers too, cause I asked. All civilian guns are made off the same line, there is no extra plant, factory or line etc for civilian sales rifle. he told me the 1020 will not be made cause the government told colt they didnt want a piston and colt made one and tested it to find that is had no advantage over DI and even was worse at some things He told me it was just a fad that will pass when all the other companies pistons started seeing the problems colt found in them years ago. ALl civy rifles are tested to the same quality as military guns. he said colt made combat weapons for battle and the men who use them. Fit and finish is not their priority. And of course as we all know, Other companies guns are different because thery dont know some of the tricks colt knows about how to make a true combat rifle. as for a debate in the retro forum. the sporter slabside lowers where not A2s machined to not have the mag fence, colt atually ordered A1 type forgings up until the id 80s and went to A2 when they ran out of A1 cause it was easier to use one and the difficulty in making large hole lowers in A2. He told me how the front site locked up with spring tension and lock washers etc, but it was a bit more than my simple mind understood 
thereis more but I am so excited I am having trouble remembering it all. i will post more when I can. He also told me he use to post here and is a member but stopped posting about 3 years ago, after too many guys tried to argue with him and tell him he was wrong about how colts are made  He does still lurk here though and I told him my screen name and told him he is more than welcome to post in the colt forum and he would be more than welcome, so I want to show my thanks to him for is time. he spoke to me for almost 45 minutes.
now that the FCG pins are going to be spec, what are the haters going to gripe about?

yeah thats true. they will still hold it against them for the older models.
One thing he told me was he read on here of someone saying use a 9mm buffer in a gun. he told me never do that and to use the 9mm for 9mm and he would not advise some of the parts swapping he has seen guys on here do. |

Glad to hear they are going back to spec on the FCG pins. I may just have to pick me up a semi-auto Colt finally. ...then again I don't know if I can handle not having a fun switch...

I hope he'll start posting here again, at least in the Colt forum, it would be great to have an insider. 
And I'm glad to hear that about 9mm buffers, I keep trying to tell people not to mess with the operating system, but of course, they just ignore me. I guess it makes me a Kool-Aid drinker and a Colt-whore to trust the specs they decided on after doing a lot more testing than I have the time and money to conduct.

I never thought to ask, but I am sure its just because there is not much point to the larger ones, or maybe the handful of guys in GD and the tech forum who boycott them because of it, finally brought them on the verge of economic collapse.

Not to beat the dead horse (no pun intended).
Will all 6940's come with .155" FCG pins? From day one? Or will they use the existing 6920 lowers that still may be around with .170" pins? Anyway to verify, or would it be better to wait to order till they get through the bigger pin lowers? Did they just walk in one day and say, change all the 170 drills and reamers to 155, now! Will the newest 6920's come with small pins? |

from what he said I take it the newer 6920s will ahve the standard pins too. Im not sure when it will start in the production of them though. I asked a lot of questions and was moving fast. Since it both guns use the same lower maybe as soon as the next batch of 6920s are made. To be honest I didnt linger on the fact because the size of the pins are as about ar important to me as a cloudy day. I only posted it because I know some people loose sleep over it and haters use it to bitch about. SO, once he said it I said cool, and moved on to another subject. Sorry I dont have more detail I just didnt think there would be so much interest about it
