It's been a pretty hot debate around the office, so we're posing the question to y'all to see what you think. Is it worth getting a .22LR AR-15 (ex. S&W MP 15-22) as a trainer to save on ammo cost, or get a conversion kit to shoot your main rifles in .22LR We're awaiting your response! |

| I would say if you have the money and want another toy, buy the trainer. But if you like the feel of your main's trigger pull and want to use your optics and such, which I personally would, I'd go with the conversion kit. Gives you a new perspective shooting with a presumably smaller caliber and might make you feel more confident competition shooting if you can dial it in and transfer your routine when you swap it back. |

Making sure you're trained on what you'll actually use instead of yet another gun is a no brainer. When it comes down to it, having a rifle in your hands that you've shot thousands of times is so much more valuable than have 2 guns you haven't shot enough. Jack of all trades, master of none. |

I prefer a dedicated 22lr trainer. I like my main rifle ready to go and dont want to have to deal with switching out the bolt/mags and cleaning more I dont think the SW 15-22 makes the best trainer. I bought a Tippmann arms m4-22 elite. It is compatible with most ar15 parts and has the same grip, stock, trigger and handguard as my main AR15. I also like the fact that my son can use this to train with me as he is younger and the 22 is better for fundamental training stuff due to less recoil and sound Yes it was more expensive, but it is a fun gun to shoot on its own as well. Never have issues with it and it is more accurate than my 10/22s Other option would be a build, but the Tippmann was the easy button |
