Don't know if this is technically in the correct forum, mods please move topic if you see fit
So having just learned about the civilian legal FMG-9, I can't help but wonder some things Here's the link with details from Magpul. *link* They say there will be two offerings, one in a carbine and one in a "large format pistol" I'm assuming the carbine will just have a 16" barrel? Or perhaps they mean the carbine as a factory SBR to file a form 4 to attain. The "Large format pistol" has me all confused. Does this mean that it will be essentially the same thing but with a pistol brace attached somehow? My last thought is pricing, after reading this I can't help but guess in the $2000+ range: "Magpul and ZEV began working together to bring the folding gun concept to life using a proprietary variant of the ZEV OZ9 operating system and a Magpul chassis" After browsing the ZEV site a bit I saw that the cheapest OZ9 offered is still a whopping $1500 just about. I know some probably think it's as much of a gimmick as the full conceal glock or a micro roni kit but it, like many others are still interesting to discuss. What's everyone else thinking on this? |

I plan on getting one. I'm guessing the braced pistol version will probably end up being cancelled considering the current ATF efforts. A factory SBR version would be ok but if they do release a 16" carbine version that would be even better because it's much simpler to just form 1 a rifle and swap out the barrel than to buy a factory SBR on a form 4. Getting a Glock to function with a 16" barrel might be a challenge, but probably doable with lots of fluting or porting or something to reduce weight as much as possible.

View Quote Yeah I'm with you on the 16" barrel thing. I wonder what the "proprietary" ZEV gun will be like internally as compared to a regular ZEV OZ9 or Glock. I know the frame will be like those weird full conceal Glock lowers. |

How I read it, I think the FDC-9 is just the SBR designation.

They're too late. They sat on their hands so long that the 3D printing community have already come up with their own version.

Is this even still happening? There was supposed to be pricing info in Q3 and there really hasn't been any new information since announced that I can find.

I mean I get the whole pistol brace thing. But yeah. Don't get me wrong I still want it.....but my brain can't justify why. |

I still want one (for no good reason) but I question the partnership with Zev.
There are other get-it-done guys out there in the industry who deliver legit hardware. Zev is kind of jokestore shitmerchant with lol-priced fake Glocks and pimp gold parts. |

Curious if a seared Glock would function in this.. Making it similar to their FMG.
Not sure if I'm excited for this or not. I wanted one when they had the FMG.. If it is just a Glock carrier then not so much. |

Haven't seen this until now via this link
"Since 2019, Magpul and ZEV have been refining our FDP and FDC designs and seeking the required legal approvals. With recently confirmed classification of the FDP-9 as a handgun, the purchaser can enjoy the firearm as a self-enclosing, large-format pistol. The FDP-9 rear cover includes a fixed sling swivel to allow carrying the pistol slung when not being fired. They may also choose to file the appropriate ATF Form 1 and, after approval, purchase a conversion kit to legally assemble it into the FDC-9. It will then be classified as a short-barreled rifle (SBR) and subject to all NFA laws. Although not certain at this time, the FDC-9 might also be offered straight from ZEV and would transfer to the purchaser as an SBR on an ATF Form 4 through their local dealer. The FDP-9 and FDC-9 will not be available from Magpul; they will be available from ZEV Technologies and through distributors and dealers that carry ZEV Firearms. The ZEV FDP-9 and FDC-9 firearms won’t be ready for at least 12 months, but we wanted to share our progress with them as we head into the SHOT Show season. Testing and producing a project of this scale is a huge part of the process that can’t be rushed. Unlike the original folding concept firearm, which merely allowed the demonstration of an idea, the FDP-9 is a complete redesign of that concept meant to increase durability, reliability, practicality, and to incorporate important safety features and regulatory compliance features necessary to create a very real and usable firearm. We’ve already crossed the most significant hurdles to bringing this concept to life, and we’ll be sharing a lot more about it throughout the upcoming year as they get closer to releasing for sale." |

The FDP is useless, ugly, and just a flat no.
The FDC is sleek, might even be accurate, and fulfills the design mission. Then again, I can just put a MP5K in a briefcase... |

Zev has been real quiet about this -- their customer service doesn't have any answers.
2023 ends here pretty soon... |
