| Another asked about this in July 2025 with no response, so I am asking again. Maybe I'll have better luck than he did. I have the folding stock/buffer tube on an AR-22 and the arthritis in my hands really make it hard for me to fold the darned thing. I sent an question to MI months ago with no answer and again today, but might as well ask here also. Maybe someone will be listening this time. Is there any way on earth to lessen the spring tension to enable the folding mechanism to operate without so much force needing to be applied? In my case, the folding mechanism has become all but unusable thanks to my advancing years and arthritic hands. Please respond. |

Typically the knuckles break in after use . We have found its all about technique on how to fold them easily. If you can not pull up on the knuckle with enough hand strength you can smack the end on the end to fold it that wont hurt the knuckle and if will move it to get it to fold. As always we will exchange it if you want but they all use the same springs so i dont know if that will totally solve your problem. If you want to exchange the knuckle please call Kelly in CS and she will help get that going for you . thanks Troy MI |

| Thank you for the reply. I have had it for several years and it has always been hard, but the last year as the arthritis in my hands gets worse, opening it is darned near impossible for me. I may have to just forget about a folding stock on it or try taking it apart and replacing the spring with a weaker one, but I feel that the problem lies with my hand strength, which is very poor, not the mechanism itself. Since it is on a range toy .22 LR if I muck it up, no harm, no foul. But if I can find a weaker spring and make it easier to open, then huzzah! Worst case scenario, I go to a non-folding telescoping short stock since it is an SBR. Thanks again for your reply and for the reply to my email direct to MI. |

Your welcome , The internal spring has preload on it that helps give the spring the tension we have on the knuckles . Its a fine line of to little or to much as we designed everything to be as compact as possible in the given space we had on the design.
