AU is responsible for false advertising in my view. Of course, we all know that. I wasn't implying just the non-bayo barrel makes a ban state rifle okay. We all know there are lots of other things they "count" to dissallow certain weapons in "ban states". But we also know that the presence of a bayo lug is one of the targeted items. So if Colt wants to sell a rifle in a ban state, a lack of a bayo lug will probably be needed, or make room for other feature concessions. Im just speculating that Colt mgmt might have decided to use up a pile of non-bayo barrels that were destined to sit a while rather than manufacturer several hundred new bayo lug barrels. I could be wrong but I highly doubt a clan of line level assemblers decided on their own to be lazy and put several hundred non-bayo barrels on all these uppers in order to have an easier work week. |

Through my collecting over the years, I have been fortunate to develop relationships on both sides of the Colt/AU fence. I do learn things from time to time. Then maybe you should speak on our behalf and ask them why in the F* they didn't put the bayonet lugs on the IAR barrels for us. We all feel cheated out of $1400. |

Assuming that you are right, then what you are saying is Colt management knowingly built their upper incorrectly, that makes my point the same, less work, save cost, getting away with selling an incorrectly built product to the general public. Or in my scenario, the workers didn't give a F*, as long as they didn't have to precisely cut a groove on the barrel and pin the bayonet lug on it, it's easier work for them, and their supervisor didn't give a F*, and AU didn't give a F*, no one gave a F*, except for the people here who shelled out $1400 thinking they would get a correct product ending up getting screwed and still no one gives a F*. |

Your constant use of "F*, really detracts from your statement. The reality is, nobody really knows why there isn't a bayonet lug on some but it is on others. As a previous post stated, the IAR was shown in a previous Colt catalog without a bayonet lug. Return your product to AU. Cussing at me isn't going to fix your unhappiness. |

Getting worked up over some imaginary scenario where everyone conspires to screw you over doesn't help anything. The catalog shows that mil/LE versions of the IAR don't necessarily come with the bayonet lug. Yes, the original contract versions had it, but it's not unreasonable for Colt to make minor updates over 15 years, especially when the bayonet lug is functionally useless. I understand being upset for cloning reasons but yelling at Minuteman or claiming that Colt employees are lazy with no evidence isn't fair either. I agree that AU should post actual pictures of what they have. You could return the upper or sell it on Gunbroker (I'm sure if you wait a few months, they'll be going for ridiculous prices as they have in the past). Or buy an FRT and just have fun with it. |

I paid $2000 for my 16" IAR upper reciever from Ordnance Research in 2017. Then yours probably has that bayonet lug on it, no wonder why you are so happy, then you'll never understand the feeling of paying $1400 for something that you didn't expect to be. PS, no one's yelling at you, you read the wrong reply that meant to be for someone else. |

Rust, all I was saying its my opinion that Colt mngmt decided to do this, not "Lazy" Colt workers. Thats all. I agree the rationale behind the decision would be the same whoever made it (less work, save money, less man hours per upper, etc). I just found it a little far fetched to think this type decision, on a several hundred item contract, could ever be made at the assembly line level lol. Some level of mgmt gave the approval to do the no bayo lug imho. I dont like it either, trust me. I bought several of them but I am keeping mine. At this price I can happily hold my nose and look away smiling. YMMV |

Getting worked up over some imaginary scenario where everyone conspires to screw you over doesn't help anything. The catalog shows that mil/LE versions of the IAR don't necessarily come with the bayonet lug. Not getting worked up over any imaginary scenario at all, more like getting worked up (if you want to call it that) over the bayonet lug is missing, that fact hasn't changed. The catalog shows the upgraded version doesn't have the bayonet lug, but the regular version has, and we bought the regular version... (if you want to get into the nitty gritty of the catalog. |

Based on my recent experience with Colt I concur and they just don't really seem to care. |

I am simply agreeing with the other member's perspective here. Based on my recent experience with Colt I concur and they just don't really seem to care. They might just well be DEI hired for labor cost saving purposes, also based on the 11.5" IAR upper I bought with all the nicks and scratches on it. |

I am and can be utterly happy with my IAR purchases and at the same time be weary of Colt QC going forward. Its not that hard. On these IAR purchases, I feel I made out just fine at $1400 for 16" and $1300 for 11.5" (the 11.5" had gone to 1299 a few months before the 16" appeared for those that have not been watching that long). AU jacked the price back up to 1399 once the 16" came into stock. |

It obvious that some here have never worked in a production facility.. A worker does not simply choose not to install a piece of a mechanical system or skip a step of the assembly process just because is lazy.. a product is made following defined specs from the management based on the customers request.. Its a well known fact that Colt sell surplus parts to the civilian market and Without direct info from Colt we’ll never know who the URG was originally made for.. requiring the lack of bayo lug.. |

Its a well known fact that Colt sell surplus parts to the civilian market and Without direct info from Colt we’ll never know who the URG was originally made for.. requiring the lack of bayo lug.. Some dudes here claimed to have relationship with both AU and Colt stated that these are new production, not surplus. I took his words for it. "Lazy" in a sense of not directed to a particular worker, but to cost saving and less time to make regardless of how it's supposed to be. |

Hi to everyone, my first post on here and sad to have it be such a disappointing one. I have been lurking and reading this thread gathering as much info as I can about the IAR. Finally decided to splurge on the 16" IAR upper from AU and I am in the same boat as everyone else. Received an item that is significantly not as described, this is grounds for a full refund and a chargeback/dispute with your bank if AU refuses to give a full refund should you choose to go that way. That's the only way I could even get them to discuss a full refund, shameful behavior. First off I have to address this: I am amazed by the Some here are trying to argue that the bayonet lug not being on there is not a big deal. This time, they omitted a bayonet lug which you may not care about. Who's to say what Colt will neuter/cheap out on next time? Will the barrel actually be chrome lined? Is the gas tube made to spec or some cheap trash? (GoldenWebb Colt burndowns on YT have me in doubt) Will the barrel actually be 4150 and not 4140? I guess according to these |

Related to that, I see the AU/Colt bootlickers bringing up is how overpriced the IAR uppers are on GB as justification for this issue. That's completely illogical and besides the point. Also realistically speaking, no one is buying those uppers on there and probably haven't in a long time. Even if a few fools with more money than brains happen to buy some of the non USMC trial/prototype ones for that much, it would not mean that the standard production IAR uppers are worth that much to the majority of the people interested in them (which again is probably not a huge number of people) Last complaint I have, why weren't the BCG and CH included in the sealed bag from Colt? Why did most of us get incorrectly marked BCG and CHs with this? All my other Colts have MPC marked bolts and C marked carriers, this IAR BCG has no markings on the carrier and only marked MP on the bolt as far as I can tell so far. How can we even tell this is really made for/QC checked by Colt? Extremely frustrating experience where the seller nor the supplier want to take accountability for their mistakes. Modern Colt/CZ group also seems to have very little pride in their work and/or desire to put out the products that collectors like us are willing to pay for. This post may sound like I'm a hater of Colt but it's quite the opposite since my collection is filled with their pre CZ era stuff. Just seems like new Colt and AU aren't worth dealing with. Seems like if anything goes wrong, you will get zero support unless you fight tooth and nail. Just not worth it. There are a lot of other companies who are providing just as good of a product, if not better and also have better customer service. Colt needs to wake up and realize they are not the only game in town anymore before they become completely irrelevant. |
| DiemacoLMG, I agree with your thoughts regarding AU. That said, when it comes to getting most unique Colt offerings, they are the ones we’re stuck with. If you want one of these offerings, you have to take a chance that they may be misrepresenting it or their incompetence might bite you. I don’t agree with how they operate, but we’re stuck with them until Colt finds someone reputable to offer these products. |

| Hey Bret, thanks for your response! You are right, at this time it seems AU is the only one getting these special edition Colt parts (at least for reasonable prices). For me personally, not too much else in Colt's new catalog interests me. Wouldn't have minded adding the 11.5 IAR upper to the collection eventually once I got this 16" IAR upper fixed (and got over the sting of not getting what I paid for) but probably won't happen now that I'm on AU's bad side for the terrible act of expecting to get what I paid for. Oh well... |
|
I am amazed by the here who are actually more upset at their fellow buyers complaining about this very legitimate issue rather than holding AU/Colt accountable for selling us all something which was blatantly not as advertised. You may be okay with Colt/AU spitting in your face and telling you it's raining but don't expect everyone else to be. I don't hang out here often and I am also completely mystified by the mentality of some of these bozos here. I bring up a perfectly legitimate issue, and I have been made a bad guy. What the F* is wrong with the people here. |

Perhaps it's that it's really easy to be offensive on the internet when someone doesnt agree. Maybe it's a propensity for someone to resort to name calling and accusations of something being "wrong with the people here". I have no dog in this fight but the tech forums aren't GD, maybe that would be a better place to vent. Be thankful that you can buy products like the IAR upper in your state of residence. WA SUCKS worse than AU. ETA: it's not your legitimate complaint that's making you the bad guy. You expected an accurate description of what you were buying. I might be pissed off about not receiving something that matched the image in the listing too. If AU won't make it right, to your standards, follow the suggestions here and flip it for a profit when the 16" IAR uppers are unavailable elsewhere. Lemons/lemonade something something. Maybe, if theres another run of these uppers in the future, they'll be correct to the image. Maybe there'll never be a chance to get one again. |

Notwithstanding some of the poor reviews from disillusioned ARFCOMers who are never satisfied because of their misguided expectation that they are buying Tiffany’s diamonds, Here's another comment from one of the bozos. To be clear, our expectation is not misguided, if there's anything that's misguiding, it's AU and Colt, and we have been misguided. We are not buying Tiffany diamonds, we are buying what's advertised and what's correct. If he liked what he received that's fine, and more power to him, he's one of those what we call "sh*t taker", he just takes it, takes it and takes it. |
| To be fair, AU does use stock photo and even description for their products, and they shouldn't have. I remember one time I had to correct them that the Remington M24 rifle barrel was stainless steel. Most of us are forgiving and reasonable. I think if AU could provide documentation from Colt stating why the bayonet lug is missing, such as, the CIA ordered it that way, or the Delta force ordered it that way, I think most of us would be satisfied, but it has to be on paper. When come to resale, we will face the same question, we'll be asked, "where the h*ll is the bayonet lug?" Without any documentation, we would just guess, the Colt workers are lazy, or they missed it during the production, and they didn't give a "you know". How accurate product description is definitely would have affected our buying decision, since AU doesn't accept return. |

I don’t get why you need a statement.. all you need is an accurate description It's beyond the "accurate description" because people have already purchased the item, if the "accurate description" had been out sooner, some of us might not have bought them. Now if the bayonet lug has been omitted for legitimate reasons, such as per the CIA or Delta Force or Rambo wanted it that way, we'd like to know about it, hence the "statement". |

As I suspected, they would rather deal with their recent move towards LE and Mil contracts then have to deal with a bunch of complaining keyboard commando's. I don't know about retail sale to LE and Mil, but Military definitely would not take their contract sale lightly, with bayonet lugs missing, military would have rejected them in a heartbeat, or lawsuit would ensure. I heard if the hue of the finish did not come out right on the guns, the military would reject them, let alone with parts missing. Retail sale to LE, officers might not notice. AU and Colt are taking advantage of us "keyboard commandos", the stuff AU sold to us might have been "factory second" or "blemished piece", judging by the nicks and scratches on some of the 11.5" IAR uppers. But there are always people don't know any better and just take it, take it, take it and give me more. |

It’s a bayonet lug. No conspiracy, no fixing it either. AU obviously does not think it is a big enough deal to give you a refund. Should they, yes, but none of us can help you with that. Yet we must endure your incessant whining and crying on the daily as you derail the discussion. I know their shortcomings, yet I continue to purchase from them and assume the risks. Apparently by your questions and join date you knew who you were buying from and assumed the risk as well..Maybe some of you were not aware, I am sorry for you, lesson learned. I still do business with Botach and they have a storied history as well. I am sorry for anyone who is unhappy with their purchase from AU. I sincerely am, but we have all been there with one vendor or another and I assure you it is normally more egregious than a bayonet lug. Yet you continue to complain and challenge anyone who disagrees because you’re hoping that since this is a Industy/Colt forum that Colt will step in and do something for you. Most likely outcome is you get to sell it in a few moths or years for more than you paid or you cut it up with a band saw and post the photos for us to see how angry you are at AU. I would prefer the later. The second result, which appears to have already been put into motion, is AU is not going to offer us any more Colt products normally only for LE/Mil. Even though I am disappointed about that, I don’t really blame them. Their store their rules. Karen all you want on this thread, all you are doing is ruining a good thing for the rest of us. |
