Not really a Colt expert, so I'm wondering if this would be a good deal for a used Colt upper. https://www.thoroughbredarmco.com/product/1798/16-colt-cage-code-marked-gov-complete-upper-gg-g-sight-nightstick-light-surplus Would really be used as a kind of beater upper that I wouldn't really care if it got banged up. I have some experience with used LEO trade ins (pistols) that are generally a little dinged up on the outside but tend not to have been shot very much. If this is the same kind of thing it seems like a pretty good way to get a solid and reliable shooter - particularly if I can live with some dings. But I don't really know what else would be out there at a similar price point. Not really a collector/cloner, so I'm really pretty much interested in this as a reliable shooter that I don't care if it gets banged up. Also, I have dealt with the vendor (Thoroughbred Armament) and had a positive experience, so not really concerned about the seller. |

Thanks for the responses. Really just looking for a solid mil spec. shooter and Colt seemed like it would fit the bill. Thought it might be a decent price since it comes with back up rear sight and flashlight. Don't really care that it's mil surp, except that my experience with LEO trade-ins is that they tend to be cosmetically banged up, but almost never shot, so this might suite my purposes since this would be something a beater rifle. Think I will probably move on, since I already have multiple AR uppers, so I really don't need another upper, whether it be a Colt or something else. |

Except that the GP diameter will be the size of a dinner plate, the barrel nut will be torqued to 120 ft lbs or so, the dust cover rod will be installed backwards, the flash hider glued on, and the FSB will be tweaked off of TDC, etc, likely at a minimum. The AIM one is an easy pass. Add a BCG and charging handle and you're up to what, about $540-50. But it's 1:9 twist (I'd prefer the standard 1:7) no chrome lining, no rear sight, and no flashlight. For an extra $50-60 I'd just go with what I originally posted. But then you guys have talked me out of the one I posted anyway. Did just buy a blemished BCM lower though. |

Just remember that it's chambered in 223Rem and not 5.56x45, if that's an issue for you. |

They mark out of country riffles 223 instead of 5.56, I forget the reasoning behind it. All the early Colts rifles were marked 223 but always had a 5.56 chamber. |

| Thought the same thing about the Arms Unlimited deal (really great price) but wondered what it meant that they specified .223. I was aware that Colt made a model for the European market that was specifically designated as .223. I think there have also been some discussion on this forum about whether you can run 5.56 through this gun. My memory is yes, but it's not ideal. |

Since surplus 5.56 are sold & labeled as 223 over here I don’t think it will be an issue |
