I don't often take long shots. However, when you have killed the first of a pair and the second stops at 576 yard, and you have a custom reticle and a range finder that easily reaches to 1,000+ yards, it was worth a try.

In the part of the country I live, hunting in rain this time of the year is pretty odd. During this hunt, the weather seemed to change on virtually every stand. I finally quit when it was raining so hard that the water started to run down the back of neck and get through my waterproof clothes.

Low humidity on a dark and clear night would be the preferred conditions to hunt coyotes, but this isn't always feasible. Busy people have limited times they can go. On this night, there were times it was so foggy that I would have been home with most thermals. Bering thermals allowed me to continue to hunt and continue to get more coyotes.

I have been mainly using a Super Yoter LRF this hunting season so far. My gun the LRF is on needed a cleaning, so I decided to break out the traditional Super Yoter. The body count continued to rise no matter which Bering thermal I used.

There is something about getting a call, text, or email saying, "I hear you can kill problem coyotes!" My answer is yes. This was a new property to me, and this video was only from part of the night as there was too much footage for one video. Most of the stands had coyotes coming from multiple angles and it was pure mania at times.

There is something about shooting multiples on a stand. In this spot, it happened to be 5 that came to the call and never left. It often happens when you get in between two coyote territories, and they start coming from multiple directions.

I set a personal goal of 500 coyotes for this hunting season. I start hunting a little bit in August. My hunting ramps up through the rest of Fall and Winter. I typically stop hunting around the end of February. My goal was to shoot 500 coyotes solo this season. Please keep watching episodes to see if I make it. Changing Weather: KC Ep 123: If there is one thing I have learned to Trust when hunting coyotes in the MidWest, is "Do Not Trust The Forecast". The forecast always seems to be different than what the reality of the conditions are, at least for an entire night. The night started off with 90% humidity and decent conditions. As the night continued, fog rolled in and visibility made it difficult to drive. Bering thermals still produce in these types of conditions.

When you have a full night of hunting ahead of you, and on the first coyote stand multiple coyotes keep following the same path, "It Is A Great Start" to a hunt. This night started by 3 coyotes individually following the same path to the sound. A 4th arrived too quickly as I hadn't shot #3 and didn't stick around to make it a quad. This was just the start to a fun night of hunting.

When coyote hunting, one of the methods to stop incoming coyotes is to whistle, bark, yell, etc. On this night, a lot of them were stopped by a whistle.

There is something about going back to your roots and hammering coyotes. This artwork on the cover was painted by a friend who is also from my hometown. When I saw this image, it looks exactly like the barn from our farm and actually the barn on the farm where I started this hunt. I set up near some bale piles and before I knew 5 coyotes were all around me. Shooting 5 to start the night is a great way to start.

Most of the coyotes on this video came from harvested soybean fields as well as some corn. The humidity was extremely high on this video. The contrast was acting a little goofy on this night and the reason why you will see a video next week which shows the update that fixed this visual phenomenon which occurred only with very early Super Yoter LRF units in rare conditions.

Cornfields rarely disappoint. The only time I don't love hunting corn is when the snow gets too deep. It will often pile up in the rows, and it can make it hard for the hunter and the hunted. No such issues on this episode.

Unfortunately, the weather forecast and the actual weather often is very different. On this night, the humidity was 100% and the fog made it very difficult to drive from stand to stand. Work was still done and lots of coyotes were removed.

One thing that is very constant is how much coyotes seem to hate fox. Every time I have called in fox and coyote on the same stand, it ends up in a chase with the coyotes trying to catch the fox. On this video on the last stand of the night, I had two coyotes coming in perfectly until a fox distracted them and pulled them away. Lucky coyotes but not sure how lucky the fox was.

There are times when you hit a coyote where you want, but they do not go down immediately. At about the 6-minute mark, a coyote gives me an opportunity and it proceeds to think it is going to get away. The coyote's ability to take a hit can be truly amazing given their size and weight.

The part that was really wild about this night is I killed 16 coyotes on 3 stands. Back-to-back-to-back stands yielded 2 quints, and a sextet. I have shot 20+ coyotes in a night a number of times hunting solo, but I can't remember a night where I shot 16 coyotes in 3 consecutive stands.

This is pretty dated, but I did a review of some of my equipment on this a few years ago.

Since then, I have moved away from the Crye NightCap and went to a Super High Cut Bump.

Here are some of the bigger items:
Tripod: Night Stalker Pro
Guns: I switch between 3 different 22-250s. 2 are bolt guns in chassis systems and one is an AR-10. For daytime hunting, I also have a 17 Remington that I have in a chassis system.
Suppressor: Banish 30. It is OK, but I don't like cleaning it.
Ammo: I handload all my ammo. I use Berger 52 gr Match Target HPs.
Chair: Beard Buster
Call: FoxPro X24
Helmet: Super High Cut Bump.
Light: Z-Bolt
Battery: QD Battery Pack

During this night, I look to my left and I see a coyote super close and giving me the "Death Stare." Even using a thermal scanner, this coyote somehow snuck in undetected. Luckily it was a very dark night, and I was able to swing over and make it an actual "death stare". I just absolutely love coyote hunting.
