OK--so I got me a 20" LAR-8 [308A1288] as well as the 16 inch one [308A1239.] Both have the standard handguards from ther Factory. I'm aware of the proprietary UNIQUE RECEIVER THREAD LENGTH AND BARREL NUT. Silly question: "Are the RRA Factory Handguards the ONLY ones that can be installed, fit, and work properly?" ...all I'm looking for is some simple way to put a vertical front grip handle on the 16 incher:   Many thanks in advance!

At one point Daniel defense aned JP Enterprises both has LAR-8 handguards, but it has been several years since I've seen either. The easiest way to put a rail on that model would be a UFIR...under forearm integrated rail. It's essentially an after-market rail that sandwiches the lower handguard between a rail on the outside and a locking plate of some sort on the inside, using a couple of the vent holes to do so. Some required removal of the lower heat shield (not the best idea) while others did not. It doesn't do anything to float the handguard, but it does allow you to mount the vert. Thanks. Steve/RRA |
