Once both devices are collimated together via the Sidekick PRO's X/Y adjustable image, the thermal "Target" image overlays perfectly. Even used handheld, it's my personal go-to palette for detection. IMHO, manufacturer support is better with Armasight. With the initial Sidekick 640, they were releasing firmware updates on a regular basis with improvements in performance. No, it isn't designed to weapon mounted. I suspect that it could be but there is no mounting method in order to weapon mount it as it comes only with the mini-rail interface. There may be some other differences in the housing that do not make it capable. It's great as a handheld too but it really shines as a dual band bridged unit. Eyepieces line up well with a PVS-14, 16650 battery cap extension gives good runtime without having to run a remote battery and manage the stupid USB cable (but you can run a remote battery if you want), button placement is good and easy to use, and it is light & small with no interference with the NV monocular. Although many folks want a versatile device that can do several things, IMHO it is better to have dedicated devices to fill their required roles. My experience is folks who like dual band or head mounting end up keeping it head mounted and end up buying a separate thermal for weapon mounting. Same for those using a handheld. I'm personally a fan of a dedicated thermal scope vs a clip-on. There is far less concern of loss of zero / POI shift. A scope is also less bulky and lighter. -TNVC Will |
