Me too. I have shot a ton of that brass through Bob.

My experience with the DTAC 308 that uses this brass was really good.

Nice shooting, even with a NY compliant mag!

Each of us has contributed to the knowledge of the hive.  You get to also since you've joined the club, and with that Vortex!  Just remember, it's an angle whether it's MOA or MIL.  Use the reticle and dial it in.

Oh and a note, you'll need more ammo.

Alright, I attempted to not post in this thread for a day and I made it!

I'm going to take some additional BTO measurements with differing bullets and I'll post them for the hive for reference.  I'm also interested if there may be any throat erosion on the barrel.  It's a random thought as I was wondering if my 308 throat erosion gauge would work with the 260.  I'm totally speculating here so none of this has any basis in fact, but if a 308 is soft on a throat and a 6.5CM is hard, the 260 is somewhere in between but leaning a bit towards the 6.5CM vs the 308. I'm thinking I will get 4,000+ rounds from the barrel given the type of shooting I'm doing, maybe more since I'm only pushing stuff at 2800fps.  I have 1,100+ rounds down the tube so maybe there's some erosion, maybe not.  If anyone has some thoughts, post them up.

I'm also going to load up some 147g ELDs and see what I can do in the 2600fps range.  I believe the mothership mentioned 140s at 2650 (maybe from the mil testing?) and it looks like the mil is shooting the 147s at 2600, so I'll load some up and see what I get.  I didn't like the pressure signs from the FGMM 142s, but they're running 150fps faster so maybe 2600fps is a sweet spot.  No timeline, but I am hitting the range Friday with shooting buddy #2 and his newly arrived LaRue 6.5 Grendel.

Posted before, but worth a re-look since the 147g at 2600 doesn't go transonic until after 1,000.

4K seems reasonable for holding moa. I'm expecting 28-3500 out of my bolt gun 260's. Pushing 142's at 2775 in one barrel and 2806 in a second rifle. Both 26" tubes.

The FGMM 142 was chrono'd at 2750fps from a 22" gas gun? That seems awful hot for a factory round. I'm at the upper end with my loads and I've only got a few tenths of a grain to increase till I get some gnarly ejector marks on Lapua brass.

The numbers listed in the chart mirror the Hornady 6.5 creedmoor results that I've gotten from a 22" gasser. 2605 fps with 147's and 2630 with the 140's.

Looking forward to your results and the measurements of the 147's as well as BTO to hit the lands.

Some really good chit in this thread!

Heading to the range today to shoot the buddies new LaRue FDE 6.5G.  I have a TQ and he does not, so we'll put some suppressed rounds out also, and we just might do some LabRadar chrono also.  I'll have the L260 out to finish sighting in the new Vortex Gen II and if I have time this morning, I may just load up some 147s for the trip.

I ordered a 6.5G ultimate kit hoping I could surprise shooting buddy #2 by bringing my tOBR in 6.5G but alas, the shipping gods alluded me this week so I will have to sit back and learn some patience.    I am all dressed for the party though.

And NO, I will not be doing for the 6.5G what I've done here for the .260.

Nice, damn you guys who keep posting pics of cases of ammo lol ...
I said what the hell on the Ultimate upper kit as well 6.5 which I won't see for a while because I picked UDE upper, no idea what the lead time is on my 260 either, Juli confirmed my FFL so I guess its being built so hopefully soon (two weeks?  )
Figure with adding the 6.5 would be a good idea with the 260 so I can stock up on bullets for both lol (yay another set of dies and brass to get)

I hit the range today to meet with shooting buddy #2 and to put some rounds out of his LaRue FDE 6.5G with the Burris option.  I have to say that was a sweet handling and shooting rifle!  I can't wait until my Ultimate Kit arrives with my 6.5G barrel!

My second task was to finalize sighting the L260 with the Gen II Vortex.  I was pre-empted last outing by the heavy rain so I still needed a few more shots to get it sighted with the Hornady 130 ELDMs.  The number three task was to sight the 260 bolt gun with the newly arrived Gen II Vortex and the last task was to shoot some of the 147g ELDMs out of the gasser at about 2600fps to see how they handled.

I loaded some of the 147g ELDMs with H4350, F210Ms, in new Peterson brass and loaded to a BTO of 2.1775; 39.7g, 40.1g. 40.5g and I loaded the last at the upper end of 41.5g.

Local IWLA range, 85* and sunny, humidity at 65% and light winds.

Gracie the range dag.

Local wildlife.

Coolest shirt of the day.

Little brother 6.5 with his L260 bigger brother.

Hornady sighters.

39.7 is the top left; MV was 2578fps with a SD of 10fps.

40.1 is top right; only captured one MV from this load - 2597fps.

40.5 is bottom left; 2620fps with a SD of 6fps and,

41.2 is bottom right with me pulling the last shot; 2670fps with a SD of 9fps.

39.7 and the 41.2 shot well.  You could feel the 41.2 hammering the buffer (which I switched to a H3), but there were no pressure signs on the brass or primers.

The 41.2 out of the bolt gun.

39.8 might be the load, but it may be a small node considering what the next charge did. I'll try to measure what my jump is in my creed w/ the 147's. Might give you an idea of adjustments for seating depth, assuming you can't mirror what the bolt gun's jump was.

Have you tried the 142's w/ 41.1-41.5gr H4350? Could be worth a shot if you have the 142's on hand.

Thanks for posting your results.

What I usually do is go back and load up 10 rounds at the node and see if they fire well.  I was going to Quantico today for 600, but it's a swirling 10mph wind right now, which means it will be nastier as it gets hotter.  I think I'll stay home today and do some measurements for BTO on the various bullets and then tweak the loads.  Quantico is also shooting long range tomorrow and the forecast is for sunny, 78* and light winds.

Updated with additional BTO measurements - YMMV.

I've also updated with the additional H4831SC load that was reported to work as well as two promising loads with the H147 ELD-M in the potential load section.

I was able to make it out to the range this morning for a quick session to zero my rig after recent changes.  Out with the 18" barrel and in with the 22" .260 barrel, and upgraded my optics (in preparation for 1,000 yard shooting at Quantico).  Everything went smooth, and rifle performed flawlessly.  Quite hot at 88 degrees and 90% humidity in NC today... only stayed out to zero and shoot a few groups at 100 yards and called it a day.  As expected, the new LT barrel sure likes the Hornady 130 grain ELD-Match; it was consistent and very accurate (pictured group was typical of today's work).

I'm back from a day on the range at Quantico and what a day, it was perfect for shooting.  It started at 65* and slightly overcast, but no wind at all.  It heated up to about 85*, but humidity was only 60% and any wind we had was mostly a 3-5mph headwind (with some wind crossing at the target line), so it was an easy day shooting!

Preparation starts the night before by getting the steel loaded in the truck and everything staged in the garage so I can make a quiet 0645 departure in order to arrive at Quantico Gate 7 by 0715 to start setting targets.  You set your targets at the pit line with paper on 1-7 (funny how them paper guys pick the spots where there's less wind crossing the range), and the rest of us shoot steel starting at position 15 and out to 50. There were quite a few folks shooting today, probably because it's August and only 65* as opposed to 187* and 100% humidity, so there was a good blend of steel and K/Ds, and we threw out clays both before the steel at the pit and 35 yards behind the pits in the impact area.  We began at the 800y line and after an airspace hold, were able to have first shot at 0830 (normally it's 0800).  You fire your strings for about an hour, then they call cold range so you can go check targets, then fire your next strings.  The range OIC was really discouraging a third string at 800 yards and people took heed, so after the second string we moved back to 1,000.  Apparently the 1000 yard range was the only range open yesterday so they began at 100 yards moved back to 300, then 600.  I'm glad I made the decision to stay home as people were telling me they were stuck at 100 and 300 as people tried again and again to get some DOPE on their rifles, which apparently then did not work at 600.

About half the folks departed after the 800 yard line and the rest of us moved back to 1,000 and it's the same routine, fire a set of strings, then go cold, check targets and let people remove targets from the pits (about 50-75% of the people leave after the first string).  I stayed for the second strings at 1,000 and picked my stuff up at the second cold call at about 1430.

The order of battle for today was to get some DOPE on the M5 .260 bolt gun (suppressed and unsuppressed), at 800 with three types of factory ammo, then move back to 1,000 and get DOPE on the LaRue .260 with the factory Hornady 130 ELD-Ms.  The plan went pretty well, but at 800, suppressed and with FGMM, I had a popped primer with the M5.  I'm not sure why, maybe it stayed in a hot chamber too long, but I removed the SOCOM 7.62-RC suppressor and continued with the FGMM with no issues (and after taking a 15 minute brake to let everything cool down).

The LaRue .260 shot perfectly and with no issues, both suppressed with the TQ and unsuppressed. I have to say people still come up and talk to me about shooting a gasser at 1,000 yards.  It still surprises me they don't think a gasser has those type of legs, but it gives me a chance to talk everything LaRue (your welcome Mark ). I appreciated the bit of extra magnification the Gen II Vortex provides, the commonality of optics between the M5 and LaRue. You can also notice the difference (at longer ranges) the Gen IIs thinner subtensions over the Gen I.

Since I wanted to see how the L260 was performing, I limited my time on steel to 5rds and then backed off to the clays.  So, on the first strings at 1,000 I shot the L260 with the H130 and unsuppressed.  I was calling my own shots (pretty cool to see the vapor trail through the scope) and then making corrections.  It took five shots to get on steel at 1,000 with the first shots being higher than my MV predicted.  For example, I had a drop chart telling me to start at 30.25MOA and I was on target at 29.75MOA, not a huge change, but I'll have to plug it in and see how the correction trues up the drop chart (MVs).  When I put the first on target, I made any adjustments through hold, shot 4 more, then came off the steel to the clays.  That allowed me to see a single grouping on the steel and to take a picture for the hive that's not too "busy."

I did the same suppressed with the TQ and H130. It took 5 shots to get on target; I shot 5 on target, then I backed off to the clays to see what kind of groupings I was putting put once we went cold. I was on target at 29.75MOA unsuppressed and my DOPE told me to dial up to 32MOA with the TQ due to the POI shift.  I was close and settled on 32.25 MOA and I dialed in an extra .25MOA left windage.  Okay, enough talking, time for some pictures!

Setting up some steel on the line and a shot from behind the pits:

Steel and K/Ds (or whatever they are called):

It's still a long way to the pits from 800:

We had a lady shooter today and she was killing it.  Shooting her 5.56 at 800 and 1,000!

Mr. Woodchuck digging up the range:

I'm glad I wasn't next to the Armalite .50:

Setting up at 800 yards:

Even though I didn't shoot the L260 at 800, I did take a picture of the ladies on the line.  Yes, they're ladies, Darlene and Vera.

Smartest guy on the 1,000 yard line:

Best old school on the line, 30-06 (at 1,000 after shooting the same at 800):

Lady killing it at 1,000, and I swear that looks like a darn 6x Leupold scope!

L260 on the line at 1,000 with the TQ:

L260 at 1,000 - 5 shots on steel:

L260 suppressed with the TQ at 1,000 - 5 shots:

I guess if I average them I'm under a MOA.

Suppressed:

Unsuppressed:

Again, it was a great day, a long day, but some good shooting.

I will say this is what I wanted to do with this rifle, get it back to 1,000 with no ammo issues and shoot steel.  I just checked that one off so I regret to say, I'm not sure what else I can do to keep the thread alive.  I'll keep working loads, but unless someone has a viable suggestion, the thread may be like an old soldier, it won't die, it will just fade away.

Thanks to everyone who has been following and especially those who took the time to contribute, and of course, those who will continue to contribute!!!!

D3... great report and some mighty fine shooting!  Sounds like there was plenty of opportunity for folks to stop by and chat.

My early morning range visit was the opposite of D3's report
My FDE heavy is still in the the .308 configuration. Got it back from Larue almost 2 months ago (for a minor loose barrel issue) and just now was able to re-sight it in. Get up at 4am to beat the AZ heat, at the range by 5. I set up a paper target facing North for sight in and a steel target at 460 yards facing South.
Shooting the cheap brass ammo suppressed (in the suppressed setting) to sight in and I am not even on paper at 100 yards.
Move the paper target in to 50ish yards and am 6" high. Get it sighted in and move back to 100 yards, switch to federal 168gr ammo to dial it in. During this 10'ish round string with cheap and federal ammo almost every shot I get a stove pipe (think thats what it called) somewhat feeds another round but doesn't fully eject the last round. See 1st 2 photo's.
Thought maybe it was the cheap 147gr ammo (that my SCAR eats up) but also got them with the federal 168gr. I tried adding oil to the bolt but it didn't help.
FRUSTRATING!
After getting it dialed up I flip around to face the steel target and get the same stovepipes suppressed. My hits are dead on but I have to cycle the action almost every time. I'm able to hit a 6" flipper target at 460 yards.
I decide to remove the Omega suppressor and now get failure to extract's, many of them! Tries to feed a round without extracting the last round. Extractor is ripping the edge of the case off or bending them. 1st shot was in suppressed setting and the rest in non-suppressed setting.
FRUSTRATING!

Clearly that's not normal.  What spring and buffer combo?  Red and H2?  An initial thought are things are moving too fast so there's a timing issue.  Brass is still hot and expanding while the bolt is trying to rip it from the chamber.  I'm thinking you need to slow things down a bit through a heavier spring or buffer, or both.

With that said, I would call the mothership and explain the issues.  No sense going through the hassle of possibly self-diagnosing, or worse, ripping a case head off and having to deal with a stuck case.

There is some red paint on the spring, and yes H2 buffer.
It came with this combo.

I'd say there is still a problem.  Give them a call.

I did. John said there has to be something in the chamber hanging the round up. I cleaned it and will try it again in a few weeks when I get time.
Will also try and heavier buffer for the suppressor.

What are those orange streaks on the fired cases? I had a DPMS SASS 308 with some similar issues (hard extraction with bent or ripped case heads-some cases left in the chamber.) I ended up carrying a 3 foot brass rod in the rifle case to dislodge stuck cases - not a long term soloution I called DPMS and said I thought it was a timing issue. They poo-pooed the idea and said it was just a tight chamber and that they'd ream and polish it. When I got it back it really didn't help much-cases still had bent rims and were fairly beat up. Put in a Tubb flat wire recoil spring which helped a little but I still felt the rifle was unreliable. I don't own any DPMS products any more. I'm sure LaRue will fix whatever is causing your problems.

I'm going early tomorrow again. Only day I can for the next few weeks.
Out off of Miller Rd back in off the main drag. Doubt I'll be there more than a couple hours.

Popular spot off of I10 and Miller Rd.
Scary place to go on the weekends when it's cooler out.
