ETA - They had a vintage match recently, could have been left overs from that as most weekends they don't shoot 500, only 300, 600, 800 and 1,000. |

I visited Modern Day Marine today. Quantico is all of 8 miles from the house so it was an easy trip to the show to see the latest in lethality. I spent some time looking over the three exhibit halls and then headed out to the ranges as this was the first time MDM had a range day. I may or may not have seen some proprietary stuff, so this is will be generic. There were a number of manufacturers on the line with a variety of weapons, calibers and accessories. I stopped at the LaRue tent and spoke with Mark and had some trigger time behind all the weapons including that sweet new full auto 7.62 and the SURG. I was knocking down targets at 300, 400 and 500, and cleaned some LaRue targets at 400 despite some pretty tough winds. Sorry, the only weapon picture allowed was of a LaRue 260, which just happens to fit nicely into this thread. 
Hey, does that range look familiar or what?

Spent about 1.5 hours at the range today, got in a couple mags worth of practice. Most of the time was spent helping my son shoot his "mini sniper" rifle. He had a blast, shot some decent groups which he was super proud of. He is already smack talking me that he is a better shooter.
The 260 shot very well. I played with bipod load, which shows me I can move a shot over an inch just with bipod load. I confirmed my zero and shot several single shot bulls. I'm coming up on 2-300 rounds so my barrel should be broken in, and I'll start gathering MVs. Might go out again Monday morning since I'm free. |

So, been doing a bunch of reading up on the neck tension and how to pick the bushing size. Seems that this is a deep and muddy rabbit hole with varying info all over... So I just picked a spot to start.
Doing some measuring of the lapua and federal once fired I came up with 0.015" neck wall thickness, So we have 0.264" bullet, 0.030" of brass so with a bullet shoved in it 0.294" outer diameter, reading says most are running 0.001"-0.003" of neck tension. I'm going to try and start with 0.003" for the tension, so 0.290" bushing and see how it goes, have 0.292" 0.289" and 0.288" on order from Midway along with some 130 gn Norma Golden Target Bullets and 130gn ELD. Need to order the 0.291" and 0.290" bushing from brownells seeing I forgot to put them in the order last night with the lab radar, 10% off + free shipping made that order not quite as painful  .
Of course all this stuff is going to show up while I'm stuck working AUSA lol
Hmm, crap anyone need a LE wilson case gauge for .260, looks like I managed to order one from both brownells and midway

Ok, Now I can get started on playing with loads for my 260... if I had any spare time right now, just got off a 14hr day + 2.5hrs of travel time (I hate DC) and I'll probably be doing 14-16hr days up to the 9th 
Most of this stuff is for the 260 reloading, magpul endplate and medium bad mag release is for my small frame UU 6.5g along with the 123gn pills, the midway repack bullets are 130gn Norma Golden target The SS barrel... dirt cheap ($99) AR stoner .308 16", I really don't care how bad it is because it will probably never see more then 200yds  the long B.A.D. mag release is going on the 260
Oh, and I had a Larue order show up yesterday (those 10rd mags look so pathetic)
