tubee1, THANK YOU! I just ordered the blued Remington beavertail grip safety with the fine line checkering at the bottom for $16.99... I already picked up the checkered Remington main spring housing last week. I'm building up a two-tone 1911 similar to what Wilson Combat offers and that beavertail will be just the ticket. Sweet!

| Slide and all my parts came yesterday, picking the frame up from my LGS today. I got a commander and normal cut beavertails since there seems to be some conflicting info on what is the correct one, should be able to return the unused one. Too bad I am leaving for 2 weeks for work so I cant start my build damnit. |

| So your saying no matter what gs I go with it should be the commander size and not Government? Aren't the frames the same at the rear as long as they are already cut for a .220/.250 radius beavertail? This is my 1st complete build but I own 2 Sig & 1 Springfield 1911's. Thanks for the help!!! |

The originator of this problem purchased a grip safety for an un-cut government profile beavertail safety and the PSA frame comes pre-cut for.250 radius. Once you cut it (.250, .220) it is no longer government profile... Therefore you will have a hard time finding a "commander" grip safety, because they are listed by radius not style. Bottom line is that .250's will fit best unless you want to radius for .220. |

Got in my grip safety, ambi thumb safety, and mainspring housing from CDNN. These are all Remington and fit like a glove. They wobble slightly because I haven't put in the springs and pins yet. I am sure they will tighten up once they are properly installed. This was just a dry run and I couldn't be happier, except I wish the thumb safety was a darker black. edit: Since I don't have a checkered frame, I ordered the Wilson Combat front strap that fits under the grips. Gonna see if it works, for $10 I figured it was worth a try.

got my barrel fitted, recoil spring, ejector, what a PIA the roll pin was to get in, anyone else have a problem? waiting on some parts to show up so I can finish up some other stuff. looks like my slide will need to be blended as my extractor, ejector, frame and slide are all at different levels. I am glad it ended up that way, I can use a stone to try and smooth it all out. I will try to get pics up later tomorrow. damn frame is sharp, I keep getting myself on the edges of the back. I didnt think it was going to be this difficult but once I get something done it feels pretty good, the barrel took me 4 days to fit, probably a long time compared to most but I did a little at a time. |

I used the Remington ejector because it was already notched for the pin. I did not want to take a chance with the drill drifting if I did the drilling myself. The roll pin started easily using a roll pin punch but I did not have the correct drift punch to seat the pin flush I used a smaller drift but it would skip off the pin. I was almost able to seat the pin flush but the slide would hang on the pin a little filing made the pin fit flush. |

I have not purchased a stone for the back yet, I want to get it all assembled and shoot it to make sure the barrel link is good, that will make the rear of the slide change if I have to adjust it. I need the tool to install the tube, if anyone has one I can borrow, I have a bunch of files I picked up from lowes, I would be glad to loan them out once I get mine done. |

I ordered a storm lake black isonite threaded barrel...mine is going to be a suppressor host.

GCO's serial is at the rollmark. Mine is out towards the muzzle. |

Judging by posts I am seeing here and at the 1911 forum, some people are very confused on this point, and the OP has been edited to be very misleading to a 1911 newbie. Some may have already bought the wrong GS if they were hunting a "commander beaver tail". There is NO SUCH THING as a .250 radius "commander style" beaver tail. Those buying "commander style" are likely buying a "Drop-in" beaver tail which is completely unnecessary. The drop-in beaver tail is designed for a Commander framed pistol WITH UNCUT COMMANDER STYLE TANGS. It is so you do not have to modify the frame tangs. Same with GI "drop-in". They are made with a bunch of added clearance as anyone can see. 
From top left then down: 1. GI Tangs w/ GI grip safety, Spur Hammer 2. GI Tangs w/ DROP-IN "Duck bill" grip safety, Spur Hammer Middle: 3. To top that off it has a serial # less than 100. nice, I went with the carbon steel, my serial is in the 600s. I don't really care about the serial number, I just wanted a PSA 1911. I ordered the Wilson Combat front checkered strap to see how I would like it. I figured for $10 it wouldn't be a big deal if it didn't work or I didn't like it. I have a pretty big paw and having the extra there wont hurt. |

This is a Duck bill version, Panzer used a beaver tail version. #4 COMMANDER DROP IN, Wilson #429BC & #429SC. There are "commander" and "government" drop in. There are NOT a "commander" .250" radius beaver tails. The "Style" on the Brownell's web page is just how they populated the description. It means nothing. You can buy them direct from Wilson. They are Drop In. "Grip" means grip safety... still a drop in. Always has been. I have an OVER 250 serial number, albeit not m uch over that, but i have front strap checkering. |
