I’m a big fan of Ruger 77 rifles, old & new models. They are strong, well built, & keep the Mauser style action alive & well. The biggest frustration is mounting a scope on these rifles. Usually when you buy a new M77 they will come with the appropriate Ruger scope rings that will fit the integral mount milled on the receiver. These are very strong & solid & they are usually a medium height but one is ring is taller than the other due to receiver ring height. Here is where the problem comes into play. The scope you are wanting to put on will not fit with the rings that were provided with the rifle due to the height is not tall enough. The problem you can get the Ruger ring chart on there web site & determine what rings you will need for the scope you are going to use & you have to purchase these separately, as they are not sold in pairs any longer these can be purchased from Ruger or a gun shop that carry’s Ruger rings. You can also contact Leupold or Warne as they make rings that will fit the integral bases on the rifle. let’s say your scope will not fit between the rings at all know what do you do. There are some options. First you can go to EGW & get there one piece picatinny base & you will have to drill & tap your rifle to use this base which will require a gunsmith to do this which can be expensive depending on the gunsmith. Second you can go to Weigand or Hi-lux & get there one piece picatinny base that will fit onto the integral bases on the receiver & your problem is solved. Third Burris offers a 2 piece picatinny/Weaver base that will fit the integral bases as well. These 3 choices give you much more flexibility & ring choices & can open up more scope options that would have hindered you with the Ruger style rings. These options will also hold true with other Ruger guns such as the Mini 14, Redhawk & Super Redhawk, the Number 1 & the Blackhawk Hunter.
