Hello. Im interested in getting rifle sized AR. I have 16" 14.5" and 11.5" carbines but not a full size rifle, despite the fact thats the overwhelming majority of my issued rifles. I carried a M16A4 when I was in Iraq, and A2s prior to and even after that. So I dont think I was ever issued an FN, so I am more interested in getting a Colt. So I see there is the CAR6700 with the AR-15A4 roll mark and a CR6700 with the Carbine laser engraving. I dont give a shit about that. I do give a shit about if the quality between the two rifles is substantial. If the AR-15A4 roll mark rifle is better I will spend the $300 difference to buy it. If it isnt, then Im fine with the centered pony (that actually looks closer to a issued rifle). Does anyone have any experience with both of these rifles to quantify a difference or lack thereof? Heard any reports? Im having trouble finding comparisons other than disdain towards the new engraving as opposed to the quality of the firearm. Thank you. |

There are 3 different versions of the 20” a4 1- came out around 2014-2015 time frame. Lower was full stamped “roll marks” with AR-15A4 and had a CAR serial prefix. Early versions of this had no QR code on the lower. Sometime through out the production run the QR code started showing up by the manufacturers markings. I’m not sure when this showed up, I have one from the second released batch and it doesn’t have it. 2- The new 20” CR6700A4 was released in 2020. This is the version that came with the new “CARBINE” laser engraved lower. Upper seems identical except it will have a cage code marked upper instead of the C stamped like the old one. Barrel markings were still stamped but I have a feeling that will change at some point. These also use the CR serial prefix. Most of these will have the selector stops milled off but the stops will most likely start showing up on new production runs. 3- A new batch of AR-15A4 rifles were released into the wild in 2021. These had the same markings with AR-15A4 as the old one had but these were a full laser engraved lower instead of being stamped. Difference was the QR code moved down to the magwell instead of up by the manufacturer markings. They used the CAR serial prefix as the old one but selector stops are not milled off of this. IMO, there is no quality difference between any of them. If the markings make no difference to you the CR6700A4 with the “CARBINE” markings will be the cheapest version. If I were you and didn’t want to spend a premium on one over the other I would at least give Clydes a call and see if they have any of the laser engraved AR-15A4s left. |

If the markings don’t bother you then just get the CR6700 and use the $300 to get a M5 RAS for it. If you ever think you are going to get rid of it in the future you will most likely get the $300 back at that point. |

Thats exactly what I was going to do with the saved cash. Or maybe even get the old school FF knights rail. Right now they arent that big of difference in price, so why not? now if it was still when you can get the PnS ones for $100 then Id just get the M5. The do pop up here and there.... Thanks again! |

They had two of the laser engraved AR15A4 on the shelf Saturday 9/11/21. $1300 and some change. Those were the only ones I saw there on the floor. Had literally full pallets of all the new model Colt carbines with factory rails etc, didn’t look at any of them closely. |

If so I wonder if SOPMODs are coming back. |
