I've been seeing a few small bucks this year. Mostly at night.

So, good news and bad news....looks like I have a 10pt showing up again this year after all.
Attached File BUT....the hogs returned and totally trashed my backyard. rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr What a coincidence though...I literally just loaded up some more 300 Blk subs last night. | Yup, I do. I live in the middle of the city in Glendale, Kommifornia (just outside downtown L.A with hills around me). I have 2 security cameras mounted in my driveway over the garage. I see coyotes and coons constantly (almost every night) but in the last month I got a real treat. I saw a nice buck with a huge rack walking down my street at about 0330. On another day at 12 noon a nice little bobcat walked right across my driveway. He came back 2 days later at 2100. That was cool! |

| Hogs hit me on Friday night, I stayed up until around midnight on Sat...nothing, then went to bed last night (Sun...work night) thinking I wouldn't see them again for several months. Well....they came back and expanded on the damage they had already done. Lovely. So, I moved the pet-cam and IR Flood light from out at the feeder to up on my porch facing out toward the area they have been hitting. Hopefully I can get a shot at them (that or I hope they really will move on now). My luck they'll hit the front yard tonight where I don't have a camera yet. Wish me luck... |

Here's a pic from a few nights ago of the one that had a bad night. Wish it had been the bigger grouping of them so that more would have received the message...but given how sly these groups have been the last few weeks I'm just glad I was able to get onto these. Don't feel bad I got one loan boar left at the moment and my wife seen him muzzle loader season and didn't get a shot. The lucky bastard avoided all my cameras and managed to hit the windmill field and the hay meadow in broad day light with me hauling hay! One round nothing the next round about an hour instant hog rooting. Sorry no pic's I was to Po'D to think straight. Oh well the wireless cameras are out!

The Photon got delivered too late yesterday evening to get mounted and zero'd.
But it did make a great spotting scope until the fog rolled in about 10 PM. I got busted walking out to the blind this morning in a light fog by the sounder. They took off to the east about 100 yds or so and I could still hear them moving about. I have a creek bottom about 10'-15' deep that winds through the place. I put a cam on it yesterday and sure enough, that's where the sounder went too when I spooked them. I will do little clearing at the edge of it and move the blind to be able to watch my regular spot and the creek bottom. We went out Friday night and then again first thing Saturday morning. Nothing.
We agreed to take last night and all day today off of doing anything pig-related. But then I was walking the dogs this morning and saw that my trap had occupants. Attached File I'll take 'em however I get 'em. |

The wife has been out twice since I went back to work.
Saw nothing. But the nights she doesn't go they gangbang the corn and have a piggy porn party in front of the cameras. Going to try some soured corn in shallow holes and try to keep them coming. Video shows my big Hampshire boar with a newly gimped front leg. Can't tell if he's just lame or has been shot by someone else. |

The pigs came last night...all of them! Wife heard something outside...I think they were actually on my porch pushing a plastic kiddy pool around. This was at 8PM. Flipped on the porch light momentarily and sure enough there were 16+ black piggies 20ft off my back porch rooting around in the ground I just finished packing back down from the last time they tore it up. Grabbed my shotgun this time and went out front and around the house. Had to attach and do a quick/rough bore sight on my IR laser mounted to the shotgun though which took a little time as I was going around the front of my house. When I got around to the back of the house most of the smaller pigs were gone (the porch light being turned on briefly had spooked them a bit) and only a couple of the larger ones were still out around my feeder (where the corn was mostly gone already). I stalked to within 25yds of the last hog (the largest of the group) just as it was leaving. Got two shots into it with 27pellet 4bk. At that range probably only a few pellets hit their mark, but hopefully enough to do the trick, it reacted as if it was hit. I had loaded up with the 4bk thinking I might have some rather close shots on a lot of the smaller hogs all bunched up. Oh well. I'm sure they were all close enough out in the nearby woods to be scared by the noise. Hope they stay away for a while now... I spent several hours today repairing the parts of the yard they damaged over the last couple weeks. Man I hate hogs. This is a game camera pic of the one I got, taken just before he started to walk off which is when I shot him. Did the soured corn work for you? The soured corn works well. It's back to it being a matter of timing. 9:00 pm, 12:00 am, 3:00 am. 7:00 am. It's a crapshoot as to when to be out in the blind. We took the night off last night and had the striped Hampshire come in solo at 12:30 AM and stay for 2 hrs. |
