Anyone saw it? what did you think?
I say its worth watching. As a movie, Ive seen far worse and it does have some interesting survival topics although discussing them would probably ruin the movie for those that havent seen it yet. It is rated R, just in case youre thinking of watching it with kids but its pretty intense, bleak post end of the world film. FerFAL |

You asking about the Robin Williams flick or something newer.

Good movie.
100% earns its maturity rating. Parents wondering will be able to google for spoilers and make their own decisions. Might make you more entrenched on some discussions or make you change your mind. I kind of wanted to try to count how many threads I could think of that applied to various scenes in the movie. And there are some scenes in the movie that if someone starts a topic on it I ain't gonna click it. Just not gonna do it. |

interesting.
I will defiantly watch it as soon as I can get a copy. |

Need a UK bank card to watch on Amazon in the US???
How are you guys renting this or is it not available in the US? |
|

I was at a friend's house and after clicking the links don't know if I could get it to play at my house or not, I don't want to try pounds on my amazon account.
Should show up at some point but now I wonder what the heck my friend has going on. |

How many stupid scenes are there like opening the bear trap with bare hands by the jaws, or clicking the shotgun closed presumably to scare the boogie man away?

Makes the movie " The Road " ....look pretty tame..... View Quote This. Pretty doom and gloom. Not for children! I thought it was pretty good for a "dark" significantly post apocalyptic film. Not a whole lot in the genre so I will take what I can get. ...However, the question remains, who lives up to the movies title? |

it was very good" incredibly realistic.
Click To View Spoiler guy had some useful skills and was definitely on his situation awareness game, but he really needed a better perimeter security set up, ended up costing him his life. especially with the surplus labor from the two chicks giving him extra time he should have set up some punji-pits or other simple traps for a perimeter security system. also with limited ammo he shoulda worked on improvised projectile weapons, a bow, a darts and atlatle, a stone sling, maybe he could swing some crude explosives main issue though (and the real turning point were i figured he was gonna die), after the 6 cannibals showed up the first time and didnt get in. he shoulda taken some action as they definitely were coming back. |

Good call on the spoler button, Click To View Spoiler It was pretty realistic for a movie. The woman and daughter offering the only thing they really had to barter with, the guy trying to keep himself fed and safe. This was filmed in Northern Ireland, probably Tollymore forest which is one of the few little forests over there where you can film somethig like this. In reality theres just not enough natural reserves and wildlife in all of Ireland to maintain even a reduced population for even weeks let alone years. Id say it would be more realistic for people to secure areas with more people like the one the woman finds in the end rather than surviving solo in the Irish "wilderness" which is honestly very small and limited to a few small parks. The choice of guns was ok, although there are more rifles, pump shotguns and handguns over there. Northern Ireland is the only place in Uk where you can legally own handguns and although not plentyful there are seeral floating around. A guy in my old gun club over there was selling a Ruger 357 magnum for about 350USd, not really that bad. But Id say its correct to assume that the average guy turned survivalist would likely come across a doubel barrel shotgun first. The Webley revolver is also fairly common, alothugh realistically given that cops are armed over there with Glock 17,and shooters there mostly use Glock as well, Id say the Glcok is far more common. The script of the movie clearly called for limited ammo so that probably played into it. The guy did have those traps and some strign with cans. At the end of the day perimeter seucrity and awareness only goes so far. The lesson would be that when youre on your own or in a small group eventually a larger group will come by and your survival rate goes down to 0. Keeping it real a guy alone like that wont last long. Even a dog would have been an asset in his situation both for hunting and security, altohugh given his food supply... FerFAL |

Even a dog would have been an asset in his situation both for hunting and security, altohugh given his food supply... FerFAL +1 Click To View Spoiler Another point of view, and something to remember/ think about, is while he may have been a "good survivalist" he was not a "good survivalist." He raided camps with his brother early post collapse. During the flash backs when he couldn't run faster then his brother, and his brother came back to help, he cut him so he could get away instead! Its unknown whether the cabin and gear there was his, or if he took it from some one else. The true survivalist group from what I can surmise is the group the girl went to in the end, and by the way she knew what to do, she was aware of their existence, and needed "payment" to gain entry. She brought the seeds as an entry fee. There is also another chance that he and his brother were well setup at the cabin but just ran out of food, and other consumables so they started raiding at that point. Ether way its a good example that the lone wolf, live of the land in the woods plan is no plan at all. You could give it a go for a time, but its not sustainable without trapping and fishing. We all know there are way to many people to hope for secluded existence in any but the most remote forests on our planet. Those forests are not very habitable unless supply and plans are in place far prior to whatever event. Think frozen forests like Alaska, or in Russia, or rain forests south of the equator. The more one really thinks about the reality of surviving like a lone remote mountain man the more one would realize its just not realistic this day in age. 7.4 billion people on earth. 15.77 billion acres of habitable land. Just over two acres a person. Ether way the movie was a good thought invoking exercise for me. I like most post apocalyptic flicks. Unfortunately most are pre and during collapse, or years and years post collapse. I enjoy post immediate collapse. Most are low budget like Remnants. |

I still am thinking of this movie off and on and wondering about odds and ends.
Not a movie to take the girlfriend to or anything, but a movie that makes me think and yeah I will watch it again and then eventually again and then maybe again as I make a list of threads I recall over the years that would apply to the movie. Click To View Spoiler I think the gal at the end is the survivalist. She not only will probably live a decently long life but she probably has found a way to raise her kid as well. Makes me wonder about her mind a bit though, but end of the world stuff probably warps the mind a bit. |

Click To View Spoiler Click To View Spoiler The part were the girl poisons the woman was a pretty good twist. She liked the guy ok enough and her chances of survival compared to stayig with the "old" woman, as she called her, made more sense. If someone had to die, it made sense for it to be the older woman. The reaction of the old woman herself was pretty good as if, sure that makes sense, accepting her death as the logic thing to do. And then to make it even better she asks the guy to use the knife and not waste a bullet on her.

The full movie is on YouTube. They'll probably take it down soon. Its definitely not a family movie. I was like - WTF, when the guy pulled his dick out and started mastrubating.
Its a typical euro-drama. Surviving is not worth it. Just kill yourself. ....... Resistance is futile. |

Had a few intense moments, but no where near what The Road had. Still a well done movie and I enjoyed it either way. Most intense scene was the wire scene. I think The Road was more depressing, maybe The Survivalst is depressing in a more realistic, more relatable kind of way as you can easily see people doing what they end up doing in the movie. The Road just feels more alien and fantastic. And yes, it is rated R for sex, nudity, violence, etc. FerFAL |
