Thanks My last post on the previous page showed a buck that I shot on Thursday with a 62gr Speer Gold Dot. That or Federal Fusion, also in 62gr (essentially the same exact bullet/load) would be my recommendation. If you want more info, you'll probably have to read further back. Here's a link to the ammo I recommend, though I got my particular batch from Scheels. |

I followed your link and it says it is a 'personal defense' round rather than a deer round. AI says there is a significant difference between the two. I get "a body is a body" but our hides aren't as tough as a deer's.  Are you using a personal defense round or is the link faulty? Others, do you use personal defense round for hunting? Thanks |

Thanks Yes, I am using a "personal defense" round for hunting because the bullet loaded in the "personal defense round" is the exact same bullet loaded in Federal Fusion's "hunting" round. Check out this comparison. (Stolen shamelessly from another Forum, discussion HERE)  Notice the first two bullets. And, not to flex again, but these guys all ate it thanks to the "personal defense" round. Seems to work just fine.   Again, repeating from the previous page, the doe was a head shot, but the buck was a double lung body shot at 75-100m. If it kills one large mammal, chances are it'll kill another of similar size and make up. EDIT: If the "personal defense" angle still bothers you, you can get the same bullet from Federal Fusion. You'll likely pay more for the priviledge, and get a brass case instead of nickel, but it's on you. Midway has it currently. Thanks I’d choose a different cartridge for beginner shooters, one that is more forgiving of imperfect shots or that reliably leaves a blood trail. Our favourite round really is better suited for someone with enough experience to reliably make good shots under field conditions ( and under the strain of the adrenalin shakes new hunters get), to know when to let a deer go, and the discipline to follow through with that assessment. |

TSX is a great bullet, but it requires high terminal velocity to expand properly. In an SBR, I'd use the lightest TSX for caliber to keep velocity as high as possible. |

Getting ready now for this fall. I'll be using the 62/64/65 SBT JSP. According to Atlanta Arms it's going about 2850, but they dont specify a barrel length. I'll be shooting my A3 with 20" 1:7. I don't know what actual weight is since I've seen so many different references to the load. I hope to do some more digging and figure that out. I've read through all the pages here as well as many other threads on this forum and many others. The bullet is supposed to do well assuming good shot placement. |
