You almost heard me. Youi had me something like KQ3WE or something. Bands weren't good, but that freq and time slot is going to work more often than not.

If there were any arfcommers in the PNW they could have likely relayed me. Need PNW participation.

I think an hour or two later will be better right now, but the current time slot will just improve as the days get shorter. By October I'll probably be able to check in on 15 and 10 meters.

Oddly, your signal strength in my QTH faded somewhat as the net progressed. Just the whim of the propagation gods, I suppose.

Lorazapam and I spke for a while on 20M afterwards and his signal was VERY strong here. Probably the best I've heard him. Go figure.

If that was you guys on 20m for about a half hour after the net, I heard you both loud and clear, about S7 to S9.  I should have stuck around for 20m but I had to take a phone call and the net was over by the time I got back in the shack.

It was 7pm local for me, and that was a good time.

Are you planning to stick with UTC when we go back to standard time from DST, or adjusting an hour to keep it the same time of day?

In any case, I never know what kind of sports or after school activities I might end up doing with the kids once school starts, but this time/day worked out well for now.

I hope we stick with notifications that are in, or at least include, UTC. Between DST and different time zones, I am easily confused, so UTC really helps me.

I wonder if dropping a note about the west net into some of the western state hometown forums would be fruitful?

I started a thread in GD. Guess we will see how much response it gets.

Yeah I think I should have done a better job of wording my question.

I definitely think expressing the time of the net in UTC is the right approach.  I have a UTC clock set in my phone so I can easily see how much time until the net, and it works as a simple reference for everyone in every time zone.

What I was trying to ask was if the net time will change with daylight savings time (since UTC time is constant, depending on the time of year my local time is UTC -6 or -7).

Sorry, I didn't mean to respond in a way that involved your question. I was just hoping in a very general way that we try to include UTC for clarity.

Agreed. Seems like the solution would be to start at a later time so 40 is viable.

I can't start it much later due to an active local 2 meter net I participate in.  I think it will improve as we move towards fall and the static crashes from storms lessen.

I agree.  It also didn't help that we just has a decent solar storm and 20 was almost completely dead right at the time I tried calling the net on it.

As of now, I'm planning on keeping it @ 01:00UTC.

Edit: The end goal of an ARFCOM West net is to get it started and then have multiple net control stations even further west of me trade off calling it.

I'm still at work, but should be home in time to call the ARFCOM West net.  I'll be running around 300 watts tonight, but will add at least 1200 to that if any "frequency owners" show up.

I could just barely tell there was a voice when you were transmitting. My ear (read antenna) was not good enough to make you out well enough to attempt a QSO.

Sorry I missed the net.  Today is my wife's birthday, and she said it was the worst one she's ever had.  Her brother's wife and kids were staying with her parents for some campout thing, and her parents totally forgot it was her birthday.

I'll try again next week.
